You react to a motto without the context behind it w.r.t diverting resources towards community policing, mental health, alternate enforcement strategies, etc, and how it was in theory meant to push for reform w.r.t. aggressive policing, mass incarceration, etc, particularly against blacks, because the status quo wasn't and still isn't working.
It was a terrible motto, created by the Black Visions Collective after Floyd, amplified by some on the left during the BLM movement, amplified to the extreme on the right as a political tool, disapproved of by both sides, and it died years ago, for good reason. It was dumb as shit.
No police department was ever defunded and the problems and the need for new solutions still exist.

I know the context. Let’s defund the police. Then let’s decriminalize just about everything. There’s no dog whistle in there. To "evolve" late in life on guns is a giant red flag to me.
