Would have been nice if the M's had traded for Gavin Lux.
What is their plan for 2B and 3B? I see them rolling with Raley and Locklear at 1B with maybe Justin Turner as DH (and maybe Canzone playing some RF / DH against RHP).
I wish ownership wasn't so cheap but their plan is probably to expand payroll more at the trade deadline if they are competitive.

I can't explain what the Ms are actually up to. I'm over it. Dipoto can fuck off right along with Stanton. I'm done excusing him. It's not over any particular player. It's just that guys who Seattle should've been, and presumably were, after have been plucked right from under their nose for less than they could afford to give. Makes no sense.

Though in fairness to Dipoto, he doesn't set the budget. He's had some misses but some hits too.
Word is definitely out amongst players and agents that Seattle mostly won't spend. If you are a player in demand, why go to Seattle when you can make just as much money elsewhere (if not more) with a better shot at the playoffs (and bonuses)?
I think that the shitty stadium is hurting the Mariners more than anything. If the dollars are equal, nobody is going to pick hitting in that tomb. They need to overpay by 20% to compete, most likely. Should've built a dome, or at least a stadium where the roof sealed out the elements when it's closed.
They will bat .200 at home for the first two months of the season, as always.
Also, nobody wants to watch 2 - 1 pitching duels.

Can't or won't? They have plenty of pitching assets and they can't pay to keep all of them.
Also, everyone says the starting rotation is incredible, but their away game pitching stats last season were pretty average, borderline mediocre.
I'm not sure why they won't move in the outfield walls.

At least sign a few of the pitchers to longer term deals before doing it (bait and switch).
The field is already small. HRs aren't the problem, the batter's eye, Ks, and low BA are. The gaps are too small and line drives float and get caught.
They blew it when they designed the thing. They can fix some things but moving in the fences more will make everything worse aside from home runs.

The problem is the cold, marine air doesn't allow balls to carry, and the batters eye is also probably a part of it, too.

Shots to the gaps (smallest or nearly the smallest gaps in MLB) hang in the air and get caught. Ms hitters, as bad as they are as a team, hit better at home than their opponents.
