I know we? are full but for @DJDuck and others who follow recruiting here's a look at how the in state class of 2023 shapes up at this early stage.
23 - Jayden Wayne, DE, Lincoln
84 - Jasiah Wagoner, CB, Spanaway Lake
87 - Gabarri Johnson, QB, Lincoln
124 - Caleb Presley, CB, Truckbed Prep
182 - Isaiah Carlson, OLB, Ferndale
224 - Jacob Limar, RB, Lake Stevens
It appears only Wayne and Wagoner hold UW offers at this point. Tim to roll out the red carpet for Johnson at the very least. Surprised Ferndale keeps pumping out so much talent.
Why should they offer Johnson?
The kid isn't even six feet tall yet, he's pudgy, his footwork is for shit and he plays on a team that is much more talented than pretty much every team they play. He's a decent athlete and a good leader, but there are better QBs out there for 2023. I've been going to Lincoln games for the past 10 years and he isn't close to best QB they have had during that time. Does he have potential? Yeah, I think he does, but why do they need to offer now? Why not get him into camp to make sure he's the guy they really want? I know a lot of people in his family and he wants to play in an Air Raid offense. He might not be a fit for what UW is looking for.
Pretty sure he's over 6 feet. Doesn't look pudgy in his latest workout videos to me. Are there better QBs in 2023? Sure. Are there better ones we are likely to get? I'm open to suggestion. He's pretty good and only getting better. He's still a sophomore in HS.
He's not over 6 feet tall. I know the family and I know his coaches. I have been at camps and practices. He's pudgy too. It's baby fat, but needs a lot of work physically.
You're right. He's only a sophomore. How about seeing how he progresses?
I get it, there's a lot to question with the way UW goes about their process, but you'll be the first one to criticize them if they offer now, take him and he sucks.

I would just prefer they wait to see what he does and how he matures.
