THE BEST PLAYER WAS THE ONLY 2023 PROSPECT

While the camp was geared for seniors and juniors, the star of the show was the only 2023 prospect invited, the No. 1 pick in the camp draft, Tacoma (Wash.) Lincoln dual-threat Gabarri Johnson. The No. 2 dual-threat in the 2023 class, Johnson has yet to start a varsity game at quarterback (he was the Abes' backup last year and played receiver), but he's flashed at a number of events and tournaments in the off-season. If Sunday was a teaser to what he's capable of, then the next star signal-caller in the state should be in for a fantastic career. Johnson was our Offensive MVP, playing in four series, throwing a touchdown pass in three of them and just missing by inches a fourth touchdown pass. There is a reason he already has multiple Pac-12 offers and he was the top performer on Sunday.

THE TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYER SHOULD NO LONGER BE IGNORED

One of the main reasons for the camp was to give players who lost out on the spring evaluation period and the summer camp circuit, and now have to wait until March to play, a chance to get good film. Few players have reshaped their body like Samammish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic defensive tackle John Taumoepeau. This spring and summer would have been a golden opportunity for him to show how he looked- and it didn't hurt being at Eastside Catholic, where the No. 1 player in the 2021 class, J.T. Tuimoloau, also plays. With coaches coming though to see Tuimoloau, they would have been able to check Taumoepeau out. He was the Defensive MVP after recording three sacks and two quarterback hurries. Even though his team gave up six touchdowns, Taumoepeau was a problem for the interior offensive line of the Blue. While he doesn't have any offers yet, we anticipate that will change very soon.

perhaps we should have waited on offering an unranked local DT with no offers. You never know... a different local unranked DT with no offers who played on the same team as the #1 player in America could have emerged as a camp MVP

EC is probably the most watched and followed program in the state, and I'm guessing every coaching staff has tape on Taumoepeau and decided not to offer, too.

Guess we can follow him like we did with Fotu T Leitao (RIP).
