40 years ago today, Ian Stewart died of a heart attack while waiting in an emergency room to be seen by doctors. He, along with Brian Jones, were the founders of The Rolling Stones. Considered the “sixth Stone”, Stu was their long tim road manager, and touring pianist. He also played on many studio tracks. He was apparently booted out of the band by manager Andrew Loog Oldham for looking too much like Jay Leno…

He was the piano player on the above song, which was named in his honor. He also designed and built “the Rolling truck Stones thing” (as referenced in Smoke on the Water), a mobile recording studio…
