But, whatever. They're all achieving great things in cocaine production. It's mostly that Colombia's economy is diversifying and there is considerable uptick in economic output from other sectors (mostly oil and coal).

Even businesses like Starbucks have recently entered Colombia because of this growth.

FARC (a left-wing rebel group made up of a largely rural, agriculturally minded partisans) also been weakened by this economic growth—much of their funding comes from cocaine production—and in 2014 a ceasefire was declared.

What if the USA and Mexico legalized coke? The USA could use tax revenues (like from pot) to help fund anti-gang activity in Mexico (and the USA).

These gangs are like the Al Capone and the post WWII mobs. All they care about is power and money so legalizing coke would lower its price and end their monopoly, just like ending Prohibition hurt the Rum Runners and Bootleggers. Far less profits mean far less money to spend on advanced weaponry, buying judges and law-enforcement, and recruiting new foot soldiers.

If the US tried to legalize coke, whatever politician behind the bill would be assassinated by the cartel within a week. If you want to win the war on drugs you legalize it. It's the nightmare of every Uber violent criminal organization in the world.
