That Power designation went away in the new contract. Now it’s just top 5 highest ranked conference champions. So you have to be in a conference that has like 8 teams and be the champ of it.
Battle with the AAC for the last bid each year!

Add both Nevada schools, Utah St, and a couple of Tejas or Arizona schools, and you've got a conference situation better than anything else the non big 2 schools in the West could hope for.
Add BYU to that and they're a fun, competitive conference and well matched amongst themselves.
