Not only would he probably be really, really good, but he'd also probably take and abuse another child bride, thus the aftermath from the #metoo people would be must-watch entertainment.
 
Big fan of The Sound of Music. Saw it when it came out

Exactly. Lee defined the genre but he was also ahead of his time. Give him the directors that came along 20 years later (largely inspired by his work) and he could have attained unimaginable heights.

I had unreasonably high hopes for Along Came Polly and it was a bitter disappointment. I was a huge Ben Stiller fan at the time thanks to the Meet the Parents/Zoolander/Royal Tenenbaums/Starsky and Hutch/Dodgeball/Fockers run (hell even loved his cameos in Orange County and Anchorman). Caught Along Came Polly at the dollar theater in Tulsa and hated every minute of it.

Had no clue who Hoffman was at the time but he made a perfect scrub on the pickup court. That scene with his sweat enveloping Stiller's face is about the only thing I remember about that movie. Was stunned when Hoffman turned into Hollywood elite shortly thereafter. Or maybe he already was a big deal and I just missed it (I didn't see Almost Famous until years after it came out).
