I was told this would not be an issue

"Another means of silently lessening the inequality of property is to exempt all from taxation below a certain point, and to tax the higher portions of property in geometrical progression as they rise." —Thomas ("the Bolshevik") Jefferson

That's what we do now. And we have plenty of money. A 100% tax rate raises how much money? Taking money from the productive to give to the lazy doesn't reduce the number of lazy people does it? Making the US the world's welfare magnet does not improve the wealth inequality and punishes productive American citizens.

We're not currently within a country mile of such confiscatory tax rates, Gasbag. I spent time with a family of business owners in Sweden one Summer when I was in college. I know the difference between a marginal rate of 98% or 99% like they were facing and being taxed at a marginal rate of 37% on my next fee. Those people had little incentive to take on more work. That's not even close to the case for me.
And I don't share your very Calvinist reaction that people on welfare are by and large lazy. They too are behaving rationally in response to the incentives they are faced with. Milton Friedman had a very straight forward solution. You like Milton. I like Milton too. Why don't we give his idea a try? It might not work perfectly. Would it be worse?

Why Milton Friedman Supported a Guaranteed Income (5 Reasons)

His idea is with way less government. That’s a non starter for you though right?

Dazzler is a true communist. He admits it. Glad that's settled.
Considering the founders started a revolution over a1.5% tax on tea in addition to their other tax burdens is all we really need to know.

That is hilarious. hh quoting Friedman. Priceless. Cherry picker extraordinaire.
Hey hh, better not let your small circle of likeminded friends know you were backing a Conservative economist, especially a Jewish one. That might get you thrown into re-education camp.

He’s quoted Friedman before on tariffs and totally botched that one, too.

I’m a Friedman fan in the macro sense. But I have always criticized his micro ideas because the take perfect conditions in order to actually work. And people like H will say he wanted UBI While he votes in especially local government that would not shrink themselves in a million years. So we’ll end up with UBI and a huge government which is the worst of both worlds. Kill government first and then we can talk UBI.

Idiot leftists like H always say Friedman hated tariffs. And ignore the part where he said they aren’t good when you have a low regulatory environment, very little government and an actual free market for currency.

"First give in to every knee jerk impulse I have, then we can talk," said Bob_C.
Yeah, maybe then.

guys it’s not a pattern it’s just something that keeps happening

We have recorded history and good data on centuries of industrial capitalism in Western Europe and the US. The only extended period of widely shared prosperity and industrial capitalism followed two world wars and the Great Depression, crises which ushered in unabashedly redistributionist policies. But things have been gradually moving back in the direction of typical and less equal during the past five decades as anything that smacks of redistribution is vilified.
I know you gals get nostalgic for the 1950s—nostalgic at least for the way you picture the 1950s. But you want the policies of the 1870s. The natural state of industrial capitalism is not widely shared prosperity. Only morons and demagogues refer to progressive taxation as "punishment for success".
The Dimocrats have had the majority many times, yet they haven't raised the minimum wage in 16 years. Kathy Hochul gives sweetheart deals to the crying Bills' owner. Meanwhile they claim men can get pregnant, white people are evil oppressors, a Covid shot will block transmission, a flimy mask will limit transmission, and hundreds of more woke word salads. Don't forget ICE agents are evil cowards and we should let in the third world. Can't forget Cameltoe Harris who is a garden tool.

So many people don't take them seriously. The only ones who help the working man are usually racist or self loathing against white people and woke dipshits.

Yes. Cut back government dramatically and we can talk. Otherwise fuck off.

It would almost certainly improve with less layers of bureaucracy.
