That article deals in a hypothetical scenario as well: "Sarkisian could've had the job if he pursued it". I take that to mean that he was never offered but had he came out publicly and said he wanted the USC job they might have given it to him. That would essentially be going all in at the poker table for a first year head coach. On the one hand he would be showing the country that he had no loyalty to the program that hired him. On the other, he would be walking into a job with a program that was just hammered by the NCAA. Kiffen took that gamble and he won't be getting a good head coaching job any time soon
