Good for Joyner. If he wants to play he should. He knows the risks. There is the quality of life arguments, but making hundreds of thousands, of not millions is better to some than long term health. It’s hard to care about being 60-70, even for the normal person.

Difficult to spend money if you're dead.
 
Joyner was an excellent player. No way was he forced out to "make room." My guess is he was forced out because team doctors suggested it would be dangerous to continue. Looks like he's gotten a second opinion.

if he didn’t just transfer im assuming he received lots of opinions from other teams who didn’t want him to die on their watch

Disagree. It's not a quality of life argument. It's a "you could die on the field or murder your family in a fit of CTE rage if you keep playing" argument. I feel terrible for Austin that he had his dream snuffed out in an instant, but there's no getting around this one.

Yeah, on the surface it's like "if the kid wants to play, let him play"

Unfortunately, 15 years from now it could be "you're being sued for millions for letting him play"

That’s pretty extreme but okay. If I had to guess, the guys that did that kind of stuff and had CTE weren’t they most docile and well adjusted people to begin with.

He was already a redshirt junior and had played four games before getting knocked out. Iffy that he would even be given a redshirt. His options would have been limited without the head injuries.

He probably was a fringe NFL guy to begin with. After being out so long, I doubt he gets a chance even if he gets cleared.
