Ugh, still not the right choice IMO but moving in a better direction. Bryant has good instincts as well. Is he big enough to tackle running backs as the last line of defense?

He’s probably the best tackler on the team.

He's an ankle biter who has made most of his tackles close to the line of scrimmage when guys don't have a full head of steam and/or don't have time to react after catching the ball in the flat. Being an ankle biter nickel and a real tackling safety like Taylor Rapp who could consistently drop running backs one-on-one when running backs had time to build up some speed further down the field and could see him coming is completely different. I thought this was common sense. I guess not.

Sure is, but what about the times an elite RB breaks through the front seven and it's that RB versus Myles Bryant one-on-one to decide whether the RB scores a TD or not. Rapp made TD saving tackles look easy and routine. We have no idea if Bryant can do the same being as small as he is.

After redshirting in 2017, Bynum had offseason surgery to repair the injured thumb on his right hand, and entered his redshirt freshman season “a little timid … kind of just laying low, staying behind.” He appeared in 10 games but did not record a statistic.

“I was just thinking too much about trying to catch the ball, overcompensating, because I had surgery on my thumb,” Bynum said. “Now, I feel like I’ve got my hand strength back, so now I’m catching the ball like (it’s) second nature and not thinking too much.”

Bynum said new receivers coach Junior Adams emphasizes exactly that: Just go play.

“Basically, he’s told us to have fun,” Bynum said. “Don’t go out there trying to think too much. Go out there and, like, talk stuff against the defense. Just have fun. We’re not out there just lackadaisical. It’s actually a fun energy.

“He’s telling us to make plays and not just be like mannequins. He wants us to have energy and have something to us, a little edge about us.”

Other notes:

- Haener threw a pick six to Taylor, and near interceptions to Wellington and Cam Williams.

- Haener also threw the only TD of the day to Ozzy! who beat Cook on a 48 yard TD.

- Eason went 4-8 with the 1 offense against the 1 defense, drew 2 offsides, and the highlight was a bullet to Otton with Gordon draped on him.

- Bynum listed Spiker as the young receiver who will impress everyone this year.

- 1st team defense was CB Taylor, CB Gordon, NB Molden, S McKinney, S Bryant, ILB Wellington, ILB Manu, OLB Tryon, OLB Bowman, and then a constant rotation of 2 down linemen featuring pairings of Levi and Clark, Scrempos and Tuli, Bronson and Taki.

Bryant was 3rd in tackles last year, 2nd in sacks, and 2nd in PD. We all know his size isnt’t ideal for S, but he’s pretty good at tackling in the open field and he has a knack for being around the ball.

I’d rather we try and get the best players on the field. This is our time to test Ngata at ILB or Bryant at S because there aren’t repercussions if the position switch doesn’t stick. It’s practice.

When your position has you already on the line of scrimmage when the play starts it's kinda your job to make tackles there and contain the field side.

Great players need to replace great players. Alabama and Ohio State and Clemson and Georgia are all reloading every year. That's the goal and expectation. Rapp replaced Budda. So why wouldn't I expect us to replace Rapp with another great player? There can be no drop off for this team to take the next step as a program and win in the post season. I want them to fucking win! Sick of them fucking losing every big game! Every position matters. Every weakness will be exploited.

Yes we do, he did it all fucking year last year. He made a ton of great one on one tackles in space. If you’d made this argument last spring, I’d agree with you, but since you’re making it now, I’ll just call you a retard.

Did you see the progress he's made in the weight room? Just his physical frame looks like he's matured a ton in the last year. Obviously putting in the work.
