How many Oscar noms for A Star is Born?

The Throbber has suffered through A Star is Born. It's m'eh kind of movie. Good music, good acting chops by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper playing a junior version of Sam Elliott. But I didn't walk out of there saying "OMG, that's the greatest movie I've ever seen". It was fine. Just fine.

It was too fucking long at 2 hours 15 minutes. Could have wrapped that shit up in 1:30.

Guess the third time wasn't the charm?

I liked the Streisand one with Chris Christoperson

I was too young in '76 to see it in the theaters and have never made the effort on video. Babs is a talent for sure and there's some bonafide hits and the soundtrack was a huge success.

I loved the '18 version. Made me a fan of Gaga whom I really never paid much attention. JFC can she sing/write/piano and there's a full frontal shot. Boobs!

Bradley Cooper is good at everything. He co-wrote the script and some of the songs, directed, stars in and sings/plays guitar. His irl dog co-stars.

It has an 88 on metacritic v. 58 for the '76 version. So there's that.

Throbber is right, the 3rd qtr drags a bit. They did a lot of character development that sets up the 4th, but if you know the plot already if might seem a little extraneous.

I'm predicting multiple oscar nods...director, original song (at least 2 noms), actor (both gaga and cooper), supporting actor for sam elliot.

Andrew Dice Clay has a decent size supporting role as Gaga's father. Barely recognized him.

My OP was more about the music (since this is the record shoppe) and not the film, but I bet you'd like it. Not everyone will, but someone as sentimental as you will need to pack your Kleenex. Not a dry eye in the house.

Didn't move me a bit. And The Throbber cries like a bitch in movies.

Not this time. Nothing.

Good tunes though. Gaga has a nice rack. A REALLY nice rack.

There’s no reason why I should like this movie. And I didn’t.

I loved it.

Respectfully disagree with the song rankings
1 - Shallows
2 - Remember this way
3 - Look what I found
4 - before I cry
5 - I’ll never love again

The Shallows scene was amazing

People still give a fuck about this shit? Oscars, Golden Globes, etc are mindnumbing stupidity. Anyone who watches that shit should die under a gas truck.
