I have managed to stay completely realistic about our zero chance at this kid until these comments from his dad.
Now I’m going to be broken when he goes to USC like I knew he would all along.
Damn this hopeless doog inside of me.
I'm the same; my head knows, but my heart won't let go.
To give myself some credit, though, it's because it just makes no sense to me why these kids would choose to go to USC. I get family, location, etc. This isn't fuck around at practice as a little kid time any more, though. This is about your LIFE, and hopefully, your JOB. Why would you CHOOSE that record of proven underperformance and unsettled coaching situation when this is your LIVELIHOOD in question?
The other day there was a thread talking about Myles Murao, the great OG prospect from Mater Dei. "Yeah, too bad he's going to USC" was the wrap-up. WHY?!? Quick quiz: How many guards has USC had go in the NFL draft in the last TEN years? Answer: ZERO. Not one. Why the fuck, if you are a guard, would you put your future in the hands of people that couldn't get one fucking guy drafted at your position in the last ten years?! (Probably includes at least one 5-star and ten 4-star prospects, by the way).
Know how many running backs USC has had go in the first two days of the NFL draft the last ten years? One. A 2nd-rounder. This is "tailback U" where they've probably had several 5-star guys recruited in that time frame.
To be fair, they have some success with WRs. But not enough. Guys like JuJu and Robert Woods are doing great in the NFL. So why were they 2nd-round draft picks? They have all these 5-star recruits. 5-star recruits should be turned into 2nd-rounders, they should be 1st-rounders. At USC guys basically stumble their way into the draft and then the NFL finds out if they can play or not.
