Here's the byproduct of lowering standards

Back in the DJ days I dont think we were playing tough non-conf schedules. They seemed reasonable but not difficult for a top 15 team. Thinking back, Im thinking it was Babs who really started scheduling big-time non conf games. Rick said something in an interview last year about Babs telling him they'd be playing Michigan, Miami, etc and he said are you crazy.

While we were playing the likes of Notre Dame, Ohio St, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, in the mid to late 90s Oregon consistently racked up 3 free wins a year and it helped build their program. Rick talked about Kansas St in that interview.

When you play 9 conf games instead of 8 then it doesn't make sense to have 2 A games or an A and B game.

Look at the Big 10 teams. They play 4 non-conf games and mostly 4 terrible teams. Michigan a few years ago had 8 home games and only 4 road games.

Remember, schedules are set several years in advance. It seems that Babs got out of control in the early 2000s with the scheduling. Its about making it reasonable. Illinois in the past 5 years has gone to a few bowls. I think it was 2007 that they went to the Rose Bowl. We are just catching them at a low point....fortunately. Essentially our schedule this year was meant to be B-B-A. Illinois was supposed to be a B but since they suck they are closer to an A.

Last years schedule wasn't that difficult. It was there for a 7 win team to win 9 games. We had the three worst teams in the pac on the road!

This years schedule has the extra home game, BSU instead of LSU but a tougher conference slate with the 4 tough road games. Still, 9 wins are there. Next year's schedule is the easiest of the 3.

Bottom line is we have to start being better in conference play regardless of the other games. Start winning 10 games a year and recruits wont care. Look at Kansas St and Wisconsin.

In 2012, we had Oregon, Arizona, Cal, Colorado, and WSU on our road schedule. That's about as easy of a conference road schedule as one can get in the Pac 12, especially when considering we would have lost to Oregon no matter where we played.

This year we play Stanford, ASU, UCLA, and Oregon St on the road. Knowing how great Sark teams play on the road, we will be lucky to win 1 of those games. Anyone with a brain knows we are not winning more than 7 or 8 games, but most of the idiots on dawgman think we are going to win 10 and compete for a conference title. In actuality, we are probably the 4th best team in the North.
