It was guys like Archie Griffin, Charles White, Billy Sims, etc who got my ass interested in college football as a young kid. RIP.

I was at the same game. I recall he reeled off a long TD down the sidelines.

Flop in the NFL but still.

Also, this post goes a long way toward restoring the right level of respect. There’s been a lot is shit-talking about Trooj around here lately.

1979 was a big year for the Dawgs. 78 was a disappointing follow up to the Rose Bowl. They hosted USC in the next to the last game of the season for the Pac 10 title. It was a 24-17 loss but a classic with the Huskies stopped at the goal line late in the game. Vince Coby did a Charles White impersonation for the Huskies

UW began the tradition of losing in the desert when they faced a riled up ASU early in the year in the first game after the legendary Frank Kush was fired. UW was blamed because Kush punched a player at Husky Stadium in 78 as the Dawgs ran up the score in retaliation for 75. It was the beginning of the end

UW also lost at home to Pitt with their freshman QB named Dan Marino. 8-3 became 9-2 when the ASU game became a forfeit

Beat Texas in the Sun Bowl. Led to two straight Pac 10 titles.

The cupcake non cons were Fresno State and Utah

Those were the days my friend

Charles White rushed for 243 yards in Husky Stadium in that 79 game. I think that record stood until 2003 or 04 when Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for something like 322 yards against the Dawgs.

The other OOC opponent in 79 was Wyoming.
 
The TBI and Dementia he developed was quite the side effect of being a football legend. This is sad but also likely a relief.

I love watching that style of play but man the consequences are brutal.

I watched him in old Parker stadium against a hapless beaver club the year he won the Heisman. He was incredible. Glad I actually got to see him live at least once.

RIP.
