So he's good but not great.@UW_Doog_Bot
It's easy to nit pick any coach and find faults and scream "he's not the guy"
I HATED the fake FG for a number of reasons. I didn't like the Blitz 0 that led to Ohio State's 1st TD. The option play against the Coug was curious.
I was talking with the ghost of DDY the other day and I told him I wasn't thrilled with Fisch not taking accountability for some of the bad play calls that have been made and defaulting to execution. I'm a big believer that as a leader you don't ask people to do things that you're not willing to do. I'm sure Fisch asks his players to be accountable and I'd like to see him do the same when it's required. I hope someone in the AD (or CP) pulls Fisch to the side and gives him that perspective.
Big picture though recruiting has rebounded and is trending back to CP levels which is what is needed for this program to compete at the higher levels. I do not feel like people really have a good grasp at how back recruiting was under Lake and DeBoer. I do like that we play hard and that by and large execution is at a solid level. Winning all of the home games last year with the roster we had was a really big win. Hiring Walters to replace Jr Hoodie was an upgrade and I think we've seen that play out this year (notably on the DL and run defense).
So yes, I do think that the program is moving in the right direction and in a sustainable one under Fisch. I can't say whether he's the guy to win a Big10 or having us compete for a Natty yet but I do think it's on the table.
As for this idea that we blew a chance to beat Ohio State … we showed that we could hold on our own on the same field with them. We needed A LOT to go right for us to win that game. We had a lot of things to go right. We made too many errors and didn't execute well enough … a lot of the execution issues you have to give credit to Ohio State for.
Reminds me of being in Seahawks 9-7 perpetual first round playoff death.
Exciting to contemplate the four year plan to lose a first round playoff game.
The trajectory is undeniable.
