Head Coach Jedd Fisch Postgame Press Conference: Ohio State

@UW_Doog_Bot
It's easy to nit pick any coach and find faults and scream "he's not the guy"
I HATED the fake FG for a number of reasons. I didn't like the Blitz 0 that led to Ohio State's 1st TD. The option play against the Coug was curious.
I was talking with the ghost of DDY the other day and I told him I wasn't thrilled with Fisch not taking accountability for some of the bad play calls that have been made and defaulting to execution. I'm a big believer that as a leader you don't ask people to do things that you're not willing to do. I'm sure Fisch asks his players to be accountable and I'd like to see him do the same when it's required. I hope someone in the AD (or CP) pulls Fisch to the side and gives him that perspective.
Big picture though recruiting has rebounded and is trending back to CP levels which is what is needed for this program to compete at the higher levels. I do not feel like people really have a good grasp at how back recruiting was under Lake and DeBoer. I do like that we play hard and that by and large execution is at a solid level. Winning all of the home games last year with the roster we had was a really big win. Hiring Walters to replace Jr Hoodie was an upgrade and I think we've seen that play out this year (notably on the DL and run defense).
So yes, I do think that the program is moving in the right direction and in a sustainable one under Fisch. I can't say whether he's the guy to win a Big10 or having us compete for a Natty yet but I do think it's on the table.
As for this idea that we blew a chance to beat Ohio State … we showed that we could hold on our own on the same field with them. We needed A LOT to go right for us to win that game. We had a lot of things to go right. We made too many errors and didn't execute well enough … a lot of the execution issues you have to give credit to Ohio State for.
So he's good but not great.
Reminds me of being in Seahawks 9-7 perpetual first round playoff death.
Exciting to contemplate the four year plan to lose a first round playoff game.
The trajectory is undeniable.

UW also had the money to keep DeBoer
Like Tequilla said they didn't think he was worth it
UW likes to play poor for some reason
I never said DeBoer wasn't worth it
I said DeBoer had a standing offer on the table … it was reported in excess of $10M prior to the CFP. He refused to sign it. His agent was the same agent as Saban's. You think maybe he had a heads up that that Bama job was coming open and he was their prime target? Do you think DeBoer would have turned Bama down if we offered him $15M/yr? How about $20M?
I had conversations with people on the inside of the program that had interactions with DeBoer. I had a heads up during the season that retaining DeBoer was going to be a big big challenge.
My problem with you Race is that you have no problem bitching and bitching and bitching … you very rarely offer up any kind of solutions or direction as to what to do. Your solutions are "win more" and "spend more" … also guessing that you aren't contributing to any of that either.
And you can stop putting words in my mouth … you've got a shitty history of doing so.
You also have your history completely wrong …
I NEVER defended Tyrone … I was very vocal about needing to fire Tyrone
My "support" for Emmert came in 2 forms: 1) as President the University as a whole was more important than 1 year of football given the pressures coming from Olympia and 2) I was not going to pin the hiring of Tyrone on him given that that's the ADs job not the President … if you want to be critical of Turner and his role of not sending him to the moon I would have no issue with that criticism.
I'd offer to send you lube to go fuck yourself with but it'd be a waste of money since you aren't feeling anything anyway
Holy freak-out batman.
Don't take this shit so literally personally. It's going to age you. Play the game and keep your heart rate down. People on this board call each other "dumb fuck" and tell each other to kill themselves regularly. It's not really serious. If it were I'd be concerned but it's not.
I can give you the name of my therapist. She worked wonders for me.
Sometimes it's serious. I'd actually enjoy meeting a fair few at the Aurora 711.

I think Fisch has NFL aspirations … so it wouldn't shock me if he heads there at some point. Even the great Saban did that so it's a thing.
The fact that you think a coach that is undefeated, in the Top 15, and played in the Big12 title game last year at a school that has literally never been at the heights that he has them at during his tenure is a laughable coach is really telling.
You may not believe that I have high standards for the program but I do … I also set my expectations each year based on the realities of the program and not some level of irrationalism that comes at your latest acid hit.
I'm all for UW having top end resources in college football … there is a sizable gap between where we are and what the top end is. Again, how do you propose that UW obtains the resources to get to that level? If it was just that easy don't you think we, and others, would have done so?

Here's your teq TLDR courtesy of chat gpt
The author defends Coach Fisch, suggesting he may eventually move to the NFL (like Saban did), and criticizes someone for dismissing Fisch despite his major accomplishments at a historically underperforming program. They argue their expectations for UW football are based on realistic assessments of the program’s current state and resource limitations, not unrealistic ideals. They support UW improving but question how people expect it to easily bridge the gap to elite programs.

Jedd Fisch, who coached in the NFL for 12 years, has NFL aspirations. KYS.

If we're talking about hoops, playing for a Natty at Arizona is 100% the goal
For football, how many years in their history have they had that topped Fisch's 2023 season there?
You're almost never playing for a national title in football at Arizona …
Are you intentionally misreading the context of what I wrote?

Arizona football has a 59% winning percentage all time. Fisch won 43%. He underperformed compared to recent coaches there

Although better than John Macovic so he has that going for him which is nice
Worse than Wrong Stoops

Yikes. I forgot the wrong Stoops and RichRod had more success in Tucson for a season or two than I thought. Stoops was a 2OT loss to Oregon away from winning the Pac-10 in 09 and RichRod won the South in 2014. Both were super aided by the conference being crazy down but are semi-comparable seasons to what Fusch did in 2023.

Zona has 2 seasons of 10 wins this century. For them that is the top as not all programs are the same.
Deboer was hired after a 9-3 season at Fresno St for instance

What I'm saying is that 10-3 season for Arizona with an Alamo Bowl win over Oklahoma is pretty much a top tier season for them …
Competing for conference titles and being in the national discussion isn't an expectation for Arizona like it is here.
It's easy to point to what Fisch did at Arizona and say "well he hasn't done this or that" like what's expected at Washington … but saying that also completely ignores what the performance was in relation to their program's normal expectations.
IF Fisch is the guy then he'll be able to meet the expectations of Washington … which are completely different and higher than the expectations at Arizona.

So Lou Piniella took the Mariners to the 1995 and 2001 American League Championship and lost, no World Series.
Person 1: "Lou Piniella took the Mariners to the top!"
Person 2: "Uh, he did some great things, but they never even got to the world series, which is the top."
Person 1: "Doesn't matter! Mariners have never done much so losing in the ALCS is the top! Lou took them to the top!!!!1!!!!"

The top is the top. As I illustrated in my above post to Canadawg.
But we can agree to disagree.

Judd took Arizona to their ceiling. Would that have been a better use of words? They’ve never won a major conference title and double digit wins could be, if you squinted, seen as “the top” for Arizona football.
