'He made a huge impact': Former UW rower passes away after free diving accident

Was this headline meant to be Onion material?
I'm throttled with laughter, but I'm not sure if that's the intent.
Sad story, no doubt.
I can't really can't find sympathy for anyone dying doing pointless shit that could kill you. I do it often. If I die, that's my fault.
My aunt's ex did this shit and was 90% deaf because of it

I apologize.
That was a bit much.
I would have been better served keeping my brain flares to myself
RIP Dawg

Damn Ern. Bad hair day yesterday or something?
You have a point. It's not shocking when people who do dangerous stuff die in the process. Free diving is dangerous. River boating is dangerous (see Joe Jarzynka).
It still sucks when people get hurt or die. I hope that if I flip my boat on a solo trip, or blunder into a big chute and get wedged under a rock like what happened to my friend last year, or blackout and drown on a shallow dive, that someone isn't there to remind everyone that I had it coming because I took the risk.
What am I talking about? If that happens IDGAF what you assholes say. I'm dead.

I maintain that it's a horrible headline, possibly written by a very sardonic Coug, but I'm also an insensitive sardonic asshole myself, and should bite my tongue sometimes. All can be true.

Live your truth

I'm kinda with Ern on the title and whatnot, but it's definitely a sad story.
ATBS, the reporter asking his former teammate "If you could tell him one thing, what would you tell him?" demanded a very simple answer.
"Don't jump!"
