HCH Academy Awards - Best Picture of 1996?

Pales in comparison but mainly for Randy Quaid getting the anal probe and his revenge
It should probably be Fargo. I cant turn off Fargo or Trainspotting, but Fargo is really the kind of masterwork that should win awards like the best picture Oscar. I impulsively clicked on Trainspotting though.
Jerry Maguire and Swingers are also good, however Tom Cruise is in one and Swingers would be shite without Vince Vaughn.
Edit...further support for my vote. I submit the greatest cinematic character in the history of movies...

Agree. Feel like Cabin in the Woods is an homage to Scream a little.
I almost didn't include it, but am trying to be as objective as possible.
You're not a Fargo guysm, Grumble? I'm a bit shocked.
I have strong sentimental attachment to Bottle Rocket, Swingers and Mark Helfrich for 1996. But Fargo is simply one of the GOATs. It's like Jaws or Godfather for me. If it's on I watch it, no matter what.
The early voting in this year looks like a shot gun blast.

Watched it on VHS back in the day, didn't live up to the hype. That was a long tim ago though.
Personally, I'm hit or miss with Coen Bros.
Fargo, and it isn't close.
The red man gets it. Plus the Sioux came from MN.

I love Fargo. It’s such a subtle and well crafted film, with this delightful dark humor.
While I did not grow up in the Midwest, I spent enough time there visiting my extended family I appreciate how the film masterfully captures that region’s vibe.
My aunts really do talk like Frances McDormand‘s character.
I've never even been to the region, but I've had quite a few friends and coworkers from Wisconsin and Minnesota. One fishing buddy from Minnesota would fit so well in that movie that when it came out I felt like they did it just for me...so I could laugh at the way he spoke even more than I already did.
When I was in school we had a couple of big old gals from Canader on the women's squad. They used to think I looked like a young version of William H Macey and would call me Lundegaard. As retaliation I dated their much better looking Cuban American (shout out @creepycoug ) room mate.

Knowing what you look like IRL I can definitely say you look nothing like William H Macey.

The Minnesota/Wisconsin accent is pretty amusing but I love it.

Independence Day was such a blockbuster. The hype was so high, and it lived up to the hype.
