Funny story about the F-22 and F-35. They are stealth planes. Here is the problem: our three missiles for air-to-air combat are the AIM-120, AIM-9X, and AIM-9M. The AIM-120 has radar targeting. So, the second an F-22 or an F-35 turns on it's radar all the other radars everywhere pick them up (no longer stealth).

The AIM-9X and 9m are close range heat seekers meaning you have to be close. Other planes can see you (not stealth).

So, our current air superiority lineup is to put F-22's and F-35's behind the old standby F-16's and F-15's so the new zillion dollar jets can use the old standby's radar to fire missiles.

Yes, we need the shitty old jets in order for the new zillion dollar jets to be effective. Your tax dollars hard at work folks!

 
This is also why the Air Force is bullshit and needs to be rolled back into the Army
