He is going to a fanbase that had ppl saying the game had passed Saban by as he won the conference and got into the playoffs with his least talented roster in years. Good luck.
Bama is not bama. It was Saban. Just like Florida is not Florida , it was urban and the ol ball coach before that.
About half the schools in the sec can become juggernauts with the right coach. His passing attack and game day coaching is elite. Not sure if that will be enough when they're going to be outbid by other schools in the same conference.
Bama and Florida’s histories aren’t comparable in any way.
Yes, but UF, FSU and Miami all love to live under some delusion that they're traditional powers.
To some extent, Oregon seems to live under that delusion, too.
Depends on what you mean by traditional. Bama is now in its own class apart from literally everybody else due to what Saban did there. Before that, it was very debatable. I grew up with Bama being little more than Ok but for a short run with Gene Stallings, who was a good coach. But it was a blip.
Lots of teams, including those many "traditional" teams, go through long runs of mediocrity. But I wouldn't be so quick to shit on what at least Miami and FSU have contributed to the game. I don't see 5 titles and many other landmarks for Miami qualifying as "delusional". OTOH, individual markers that are almost entirely a function of being a good program for 85 years or more are not going to be in either program's record book for a while. If that's what you care about, then there's no arguing the point. I would say Florida State's run of 14 straight years of ending the season in the top 5 is a pretty impressive mark amongst all-time accomplishments.
