Grubb coming back to Washington

Only problem I had with grubb is his sense to only focus on the big play at times. Late in the season they did a lot more high percentage passes mixed in and controlled the clock vs some great offenses. He definitely can get good offensive line play and draw up passing schemes.
Admittedly I thought his play calling nearly cost us the oregon state game. From the then on I thought he did a good job the rest of the way.

He’s been with DeBoer for 16 years or something like that. He gets a lot of passes from DeBoer because of their relationship.
Working for a new head coach — especially someone who is supposedly a defensive mastermind — could be an enlightening step for Grubb.
And hello! It’s the NFL.

I don't see why Grubb has to be above criticism. He made brilliant calls and sometimes boneheaded ones. His overly aggressive calls and inability to adjust prevented UW from putting away several games, including the first game against Oregon and the Sugar Bowl.

Grubb is an excellent OC. He's as NFL-ready in his schemes as it gets for a guy who hasn't coached in the NFL. Fortune favors the bold. If the shoe fits, wear it. Big Ern gives two big thumbs up. Big Ern is a ceiling guy.
The DeBoer schadenfreude would also make me antoniobanderas.gif.

UW took like 8 snaps all year under center and we had less than 3 motions pre-snap just about as many plays.

I don't know where all the "nfl offense" regarding our play calling comes from and I've heard it several times

EDIT: I've also been skeptical on how much is grubb vs deboer as deboer is an offense guy, skepticism runs towards both of them for that reason

Are you saying the offense was a basic bitch? I can't fathom why anyone would want to argue that point. The 'WDWHA/it was all the players anyway' vibe is strong.
I'm going to retract my "NFL-ready" comment because it's a basic Booger bitch thing to say. It's indefensible as it will no doubt turn into a debate about the meaning of NFL-ready. There is not a chance of me wanting to enter that hell. I need to be more careful next time.

... What?
No, I never said that, being more suited for college doesn't necessarily imply basic. That being said, you literally can't motion like that in the nfl, and you can't snap out of shotgun as often given the higher level of athleticism on the dl in the pros.
He could very well be ready to adjust, I just always find it odd when I hear he's nfl ready without hearing any specific reason why when we don't even know the split of duty between him and deboer.

I misread "we had less than 3 motions pre-snap just about as many plays". I thought it was a broken english way of saying we had just about 3 plays.
I still don't really want to debate what NFL-ready means, but to me, the Grubb offense's overall precision, execution, creativity, verticality, pass blocking, and ability to scheme playmakers open in space will suit the new NFL well. The two teams in the Super Bowl are arguably the two most creative offenses in the NFL and its no coincidence. It's not a stretch to envision Grubb bringin' some of that magic into the NFL. UW was a nightmare to defend and it wasn't just the players. You don't see well-oiled machines like that in college often. It was next-level, and I guess that's where I'm at with it. I give him reasonably good odds of having success in the NFL. Yes it depends on players but it always does. Agree that it's hard to say how much was DeBoer, but Grubb liked to talk about the freedom that DeBoer gave him.
It's always a risk to hire a first time NFL coach, especially as OC, so I reckon whether he's a good hire or not depends on what the other options are. That being said, my thumbs are still up if he's the choice. I like value stocks.

Fair enough, I realized I had worded that kind of odd but figured everyone here spoke the same level of retard as myself on a spiritual level if nothing else.
What you're trying to verbalize is the spacing his schemes create, which is fantastic but also why I point towards shotgun/motion usage as potential red flags.
That being said, as you mentioned, there are always questions following a coordinator going college to pro, I wasn't trying to talk down grubb specifically as much as I was the repeated mention that we ran an nfl scheme.

If he's not hired for the seahawks, I'd obviously still love for him to go to the other Washington under Quinn, or bucs post-Canales, or any other team without an OC, as long as it's not Alabama.
I'll literally root for him regardless of destination even if it proves me wrong as long as it's not Alabama, was just airing what I think are some fair thoughts.

Hawk fan here, not a 12. Been a fan since Krieg was the qb and my sister babysat his kid. Since Brawtkowski coached the offense and I played soccer with Shane and sat in the wives section at the dome, since Eugene showed up at Alex’s house and bought mouthpieces from Nick (pre hookers before the SB days), since (Engram/Jackson’s?) niece was sent to live with her uncle and needed a ride home from LW and caught the D in the minivan in the grassland park porking lot. Been a 12 before being a 12 was a thing.
Though he doesn’t deserve hate for leaving with dedouche, he deserves hate for his bone headed play calling.
On behalf of hawks fans everywhere we don’t want Grubb. Thanks for the memories.
