Relative to its peers, of course.

In the Mt. Rushmore of elite American aircraft you’d have to strongly consider putting the Mustang up there four times.

There’s really nothing like it in the history of America fighters in terms of so thoroughly outclassing the competition. And to think it didn’t even start out that way.

No honorable mention for the P-38?

HM for the photo of Dick Bong as well.

His name was Dick Bong and he shot motherfuckers down by the boatload. How cool is that?

P-51 and the F-22[/b] are the only planes that in their era completely and overwhelmingly outclassed every other fighter of their era's. I went with the F-22 simply so I could give a Fuck Off Row Peter Puffer to Rowboat for not including it. Either are acceptable answers.

Moving beyond the truly overpowered fighters, my favorites on the list are the are of course the F-18 (duh), the Corsiar and the Hellcat because killing Japs was cool, and the Phantom because that big brick was a hell of a machine.

I wanted to do F-22 but we? Only made like 200 of them.

So I used to have a season pass to the Museum Flight which a great collection of WWII war birds...

Corsair
P-40
P-47
P-38
P-51
Mildcat
Bf 109
Spitfire
Zero
B-29
B-17

Then Covid shut it all down. My kids fucking loved that place and it was the best indoor playground in Seattle.

Seeing the ME-262 in the Air & Space museum was cool as hell. Shout out Germany

They have a ME-262 at the airplane museum in McMinnville, Oregon. Cool as hell indeed. Thank god they were out of gas by the time they got that thing off the assembly line.

BTW Heater Allen brewery in McMinnville is excellent. Their Pilsner is top notch.

I worked for Paul Allen's collection before Covid shut that shit down. It's too bad, not only was it a fucking cool place to work we had an ME 262 close to being finished with the original Jumo 004 engines, and a JU-87 Stuka being actively restored.
