A new analysis finds several counties with above-average vaccination rates also have higher COVID case rates, while case rates are falling in counties with below-average vaccination rates.

Statewide data analyzed by the Bay Area New Group found the five counties, Los Angeles, San Diego, Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco, have both a higher percentage of people who are fully vaccinated than the state average and a higher average daily case rate.

Compare that to these five counties: Modoc, Glenn, Lassen, Del Norte, and San Benito, which have below-average vaccination rates and decreasing case rates.

Densely populated counties where people recently dropped the mask recommendations have higher case counts.

Go figure.

If the vax worked as intended, even with higher population densities, a vax with a 90%+ efficacy rate should prevent those areas from having higher positive rates. This is basic math.

Agree. Lots of chatter about COVID devolving to a seasonal cold or flu virus over the long-haul. I've read good arguments that point out a virus which wipes out its hosts is not going to be around for long, but counter-point to that is that HIV, Ebola, etc don't weaken. Maybe there's something different about coronaviruses, I don't know. I'm not qualified to guess.

Nobody is factoring Natural Immunity into the equation, which is probably double or triple the number of recorded cases. As we move away from PCR tests and toward antigen & antibody tests, this will likely bear out. Meanwhile the virus will continue to spread, but in a weaker form as it spreads out, finding ever-fewer hosts among the population. Stronger variants could be forthcoming, but the Delta ain't it.
