Grade the position groups... reasonable expectations for next year

RBs have low value in the NFL but high value in college.

The first reason is that you can ride a good #1 back hard in the college run game. A guy like Sankey posted multiple 25+ carry games whereas you won't see that in the pros. Reason: injuries, wear and tear.

A very good RB adds more value than a very good WR in college. Because the QB can't fuck up the opportunities for a very good RB but he can for a WR.

UW cruises to an undefeated season if they have Jermar Jefferson last year.
 
QB: C, Upside is good college QB (ironically, Trace McSorley type). No depth.
RB: B-, A lot of guys. But mainly just decent college backs. Great stable of horses, but no studs.
WR: C+, A handful of guys with potential who haven't done anything.
TE: A-, We provincials overrate Otten but there is a ton of depth and potential in the group.
OL: A, Good production, good depth, a lot of options and versatility.

DT: B-, Potential has to turn into production.
DE/OLB: A-, ZTF, Latu and Smalls could all be stars, others provide solid depth/rotation. Would be A to A+ if we had Latu healthy all last year and he performed as expected
ILB: C+, Eddie and depth. Other spot is a drag on the grade until somebody really steps up.
DB: B-, I love Trent, and the bodies and numbers are certainly there, but somebody has to actually do it before the grade goes up. Safety was a disappointment and there were even times where our CBs were underwhelming, lacked fire.

IF DMo makes a little improvement and the young WR take ownership and make plays, the offense could hum. As long as we aren't as stupid as we were last year trying to run into heavy boxes with JAGs.

IF the DT group does a better job of keeping the LBs clean and we get a little more passion from the back end about stopping the run, the defense could be great.

Or we could muddle through the season like last year, being generally better than most opponents but looking mediocre from time to time.

Imo RB position will determine UWs success this year. We will have 7 scholarship RBs. Find one or two that can get the job done. If we run out that Mickey Mouse JV everyone gets a turn bullshit, we're not gonna be successful

Running backs don’t matter, yards created by an average back vs an elite one is minimal. It’s great to a have good one though. Our entire season hinges on the development of the IDL and John Donovan/QB situation.

How in the world could you watch Myles Gaskin play for UW for four years and still come to this conclusion?

Wait you mean it’s better to always recruit the best players? No way! They just add less value than every other position on offense via the nature of the position. It’s not the NFL where you have to worry about spending cap money.

RB is not close the position that will make or break our season. It’s QB play and it’s not really even close.

It's also not the NFL where everyone on defense is a robot, etc. Running back still matters in college BIGLY. Case in point: The consensus here is that Browning (your QB play you mention there) sucked (he didn't, but let's go with it). Yet, with Gaskin, that team won 10 games three seasons in a row. Gaskin was also the biggest reason for the biggest win the prior year, was pretty much the only thing that kept the Huskies in the Oregon game, and was the singular difference between a win and a loss in several other games through that stretch. He wasn't just exploiting huge holes his OL was making, he was often making something out of nothing or getting 10 yards and moving the chains when only 5 were really there.

You want to tell me that the Huskies can be fine without that kind of difference maker at a position that touches the ball on 50% of plays in this system because the #2 receiver or Center had an amazing Hudl, you haven't been watching.

Either Eason was three conference wins worse than Browning or replacing Gaskin was kind of a Big Deal.
