I mean the signage was pretty clear that I was free to pump my own gas.

That used to be the case but they eased or removed that a few years ago. I think I remember self-serve lanes at big gas stations before covid, but maybe that's what started it.

Can't wait for the vids of Oregonians trying to pump their own gas once the bill passes the Oregon Senate. But it won't put all those Duck grads out of a job. Stations can still have attendants pump your gas but at no more that 40% of available pumps. The CF will be amazing.
 
I must admit I've developed a bit of Stockholm syndrome vis-a-vis PUMP MY GAS, DUCK! Used to hate it, but now I've gotten so bloody used to it after almost 3 years.

Fortunately, with my UW liberal arts degrees I was able to pump my own gas safely and not spill a drop.
