The game tonight showed the difference between Ahmed and Gaskin ... where Ahmed struggled running anywhere but where the play was designed Gaskin[/b] showed his vision and routinely was able to make positive plays

There are physical measures which are great but measuring instinct and IQ is really hard to measure ... those traits are elite for Myles

Myles will likely never be an All-Pro ... but he’s far from the top of the list of Miami’s offensive issues to solve in the offseason

You don’t put up 169 yards on 19 touches in the NFL by being average at best

There was one play in particular that was an entire flashback to his (Ahmed) days at UW. The camera angle was right behind the offense, he takes the ball, the middle is just a wall offensive and defensive linemen, and he just runs right into the backs of his center and guard and obviously without any intention of doing otherwise.

Nobody is saying MMFG is a first ballot HOFamer, but he's going to have a career. Think Warrick Dunn ... that kind of guy. Maybe that's too ambitious, but it's what I think of when I think of Gaskins. I was pulling hard for the kid last night and I generally couldn't care less about the NFL. Still say I'll be surprised if the terrorist sticks unless he's able to become a specialist in a narrow array of offenses that get him into space immediately. Handing the ball to him behind the LOS? I don't see it ... not for long. Stand to be corrected.

Roadie typically your takes are good, but Gaskin was a much better college player and a better pro than Ahmed.

Gaskin was way better in college for sure. Until tonight, Ahmed had been better running the ball.

Gaskin is so loved here that many overrate him or try to put down Ahmed to prop him up. Ahmed running for 120+ against New England last week was better than any game Gaskin had until this week. NE is a pretty good defense too.

Both are average at best right now. Gaskin is a below average starter in the NFL which is way better than most projected. I really doubt the Dolphins think they are set at RB.[/b]

This is pretty fair and they will most likely draft another RB next year. Gaskin's limitations will always keep a target on his back as long as he is in the league, but his instincts as a runner, toughness at the point of contact and overall effectiveness in the passing game were on display tonight. He's getting the film out there that he's more than his measurables. He was exceptional tonight.

The long TD was all about him refusing to accept a limited play. He kept fighting and looking until he saw he might catch the edge, which he did, and housed it. Good for him. Kid is the polar antonym of a quitter. Whatever happens to him, it won't be for lack of putting up a fight.

Gaskin may be an "average" NFL back to you ... but what does his performance tonight say?

Don't be a dick and downplay it ... he was basically Miami's offense and balled out. Having that explosive potential is worth something ...

Gaskin is writing his own game cheques ... he's showing future GM's that he can do it on the biggest stage and make things happen even though he lacks NFL measurables.
Takes a pass and breaks tackles and scores. Takes a pass, makes a player miss and then uses his blockers and runs up the sidelines for a 59 yard score and confidence for the team.

The flipside to what you are thinking is this:

Dolphins GM says "you know, we're 10-5 and we've had good production from the RB room from our 2 young players ... do we really need to spend a high round pick(s) for a Najee Harris ... or do we shore up our OL or our Defense? If we win with Defense, stabilize our O line and receiver room which gives Tua more consistency and confidence ... we can live successfully with Gaskin/Ahmed ..."

He had a very good game. Ahmed was great last week. Both are outperforming expectations. Gaskin has also had a lot of duds and was pretty bad for most of the season and I commented on it then. I’m not into overrating them because they played at UW.

They will sign a RB like Chris Carson or draft one in the top 3 rounds. It’s a bad RB room. The Dolphins rebuilt well and are ahead of schedule. Obviously whether Tua is legit or not is the biggest pressing need for them, but they need better skill players everywhere, including RB.

I assume the Fitzpatrick thing last night was a benching and not something else. I saw Tua take off and that hip ain't ever coming back to what it once was. I have no idea what his numbers are ... can he make a living as an elite QB in the pocket?

The way he ran the route was savvy as well. Not many RB's can split out wide and just ace every dimension of that play. Most QB's and coaches don't trust the average RB to make those plays. Swiss-army knife. He's a significant part of that offense working at all and turning around into a playoff contender.
