One of the problems with changing the culture around here is that our players are lazy, mentally weak pieces of shit. Their commitment to consistency was shown last year in efforts such as:
1) Coming from 21 points ahead to beat a shitty EWU team by 7.
2) Being down to Georgia fucking State 14-0 at half time, then scoring 45 points in the second half.
3) Being down to Colorado 20-17 at half, then beating the fuck out of them in the second half.
Then, after a few weeks where they played pretty well the whole game (the final three weeks)...
4) Being down 24-0 at half to fucking Okie State, then beating them down in the second half 22-6.
Our team—well, more specifically, Sark's leftovers—are a bunch of mentally weak loser fucks who really only play when they 'have' to. If you're up 21-0 in the first quarter against EWU, the final score should be 59-10. If you're down to GSU at half 14-0, the locker room should be converted to a gas chamber, etc.
One of the interesting things is to see that in terms of depth chart moves. You can tell who is a lazy fuck by how they move on the depth chart:
QB
Browning: talented, not a lazy fuck, moves up the depth chart immediately because he gives a shit.
Lundegaard: Lazy fuck, has 26 years to get it right and despite a cannon arm and speed, can't beat out a 14 year old kid who looks like a spelling bee champ.
RB
Gaskin: talented kid who comes into a culture where Pete expects him to be good, is good.
Washington: At the beginning of camp Pete is like, 'maybe he'll take a big step forward'; at the end of camp is listed as OR with Lavon Coleman.
WR
Mickens: Fuck Jaydon Mickens, but at least he tries. I always wonder, if him and DWarsh have a kid, will that child only run diagonal?
Pettis & Lenius: These guys will be good this year. They took the starting positions and there's no mention of competition.
TE
Daniels: I love Darrell Daniels' talent, but if he weren't a Sark suck-fest, he would easily be the #1 guy coming out of camp. He's listed as an OR with fucking Drew Sample. Drew Sample might be good, but there's no way Daniels should be pushed by a pudgy white kid two classes behind him.
AJamu: Got passed by Sample even though he's physically vastly superior to him.
OL
Adams, McGary & Sosebee: You can tell that they all will start by the end of the season from Strausser's interview. This is how you want it, your most talented kids emerging. They aren't Sark sacks of shit, so they play well.
Dane Crane and all the other POSes recruited by Sark: Strausser looks in physical pain when he has to talk about them.
DL
Mathis & Qualls: This is how you want it, these guys are talented and they locked down their jobs. There's no fucking 'ORs' with Dissly or Gaines even those guys have gotten praise.
Tupou: The fact that Tupou has emerged as a clear starter makes him the AHud candidate of the year. Chode is a great coach.
Vea: I'm willing to give him a pass because he took a year off from football, but this time next year, if he's not clearly ahead of Gaines, there's a problem.
LB
Feeney: This is what you want, super-talented player, taking a step forward.
Lawyer: He's the Jeff Lindquist of the D, except for with no talent.
DB
King: Very encouraging that he held his own with Gardenhire, because he's more physically talented than DG; However the jury is still out. He should be an All Pac-12 candidate by mid-season or he's a waste of space.
Baker: Exactly what you want. All you hear about him is he's getting better and better. Talented, but always tops on the depth.
Clay: Exactly what you don't want. Some shitty player with no talent starting as a senior because he doesn't make mistakes. Hopefully McIntosh can pass him, but it's a weak spot for sure.
Joyner: This kid is obviously the real deal; second KR behind Budda and made the depth at a deep position.
Overall, the point is pretty simple: you want your most talented people emerging and when that happens you have a great team. It seems like on the DL we are consistently getting that and at other positions we are going to have to wait for Pete's players to supplant the wastes of space recruited by Sark.
Players I'm most eager to see this year:
QB - Browning.
RB - Gaskin and Lavon Coleman (fuck you guys, dude got huge in the off-season, he still could be good; Kevin King of the offense).
WR - Pettis and Lenius.
TE - Daniels would you play consistently you piece of shit?!
OL - McGary, Sosebee, Adams.
DL - #myjojo - All Pac-12.
LB - Azeem Victor; it's a good sign that he just took the title from Lawyer without any fanfare and emerged as the best of the Soph LBs.
DB - Budda, Sid Jones and Austin Joyner.
It's going to be an interesting year, but this team has a lot of the pieces in place to be very good at some point. We just have to arrive at a situation where our most talented players try the hardest. It's been forever since that happened. What, like '96? Maybe '00?
