Average at development? Shelton was the 2 star that we all laughed at when sark signed at the last minute.Strausser's paid a lot of money to develop players AND recruit. For three years he's been average at best at the former, and totally fucking worthless at the latter.
Entering his forth year, what kind of talent and depth do we have at guard and center? After three full seasons, he's done such a swell job of building depth, that we were forced to start a 270lb true freshman against Alabama.
Coleman Shelton is only stightly less mediocre than he was last season, and three years of Strausser's coaching has done positively fuck-all for Shane Brostek, Matt James, John Turner, & Jesse Sossebee.
At tackle, Adams and McGary both played well this year, and Strausser has to get some credit for that, but not coincidentally Adams & McGary were two of the few highly regarded lineman with good offer sheets that we've managed to land under Strausser's watch. What's the depth behind them though, Devin Burleson & Jared Hilbers?!
The one guy who was not super highly regarded out of high school but really improved this year was Jake Eldrenkamp. Kudos to Strausser there.
But looking at the OL roster as a whole is fucking depressing. There is a ton of dead weight, and noticeable lack of top-end talent. This doogish fucking notion that Strausser just needs to beat out Cal Poly for recruits then will shape them into all-conference types is fucking stupid.
Just like every other goddamned position, we need to combine top talent with really good coaching. Lake seems gets it done, so does Gregory, Kawasaki, Bonerpopper, & Bush... I'm not sure why Strausser gets a pass from several around here.
Over the last three classes we've signed only 6 offensive linemen... that's going to cause problems down the road, whether some want to admit it or not.
Holy fucking Tequila. Sorry, I'm done.
He's now a very serviceable center who could be even better as a senior next year. Adams and McGary were very good but not can't miss. They are both studs. Adams may be a 1st round pick 2 April's from now.
Eldrenkamp was not highly recruited at all. Made him an all conference guy who will get drafted.
Harris, while not big enough yet to hold up against bama still had a great year for a true freshman.
Considering he can't recruit and inherited cozetto's mess, making that group into probably the best line in the pac isn't "average"
Adams and McGary were can't miss guys, imo.
