How many players on the team right now would not be if BYU were a P5 school?
More than zero. But fewer than 85.
I suppose it will depend on how many are of that, to quote the late DJDuck, are of that ilk[/i]. And how ilk-y they are. Some of the worst degenerates I’ve ever known came from that ilk, so not all will rush off to Provo.
Butt, many will go.
In 2015 Helf lost two 4-stars to BYU flips. CB Troy Warner (brother of current NFL 1st team All Pro Fred Warner) who would be an instant freshman starter and their best CB for two years before injuries. And a 4-star DE that played as a freshman then medically retired. Haloti Ngata was a former BYU commit.
Now that NIL is a thing if there are any top recruits that are susceptible to weight loss, maybe with parents who are going through a divorce and need money, then BYU becomes close to home.
I’d bet BYU would be similar to Utah but with a slightly different demographic tilt to the roster and an extra handful or two of 4-stars Polys/Mormons mostly taken from the rest of the conference. History repeats itself; inevitable decline for the Ute as the Mormons take over their territory.
I think as long as university presidents have to sign things - this won’t be happening. BYU has academics, but imagine the angry tweets from current Pac-12 students. U of O’s student council eliminated sports ticket purchasing for 2021 in order to use the money for other causes, since only 65% of UO students attend sporting events. They allocated the money to seven programs that more students can benefit from. Number one on the list was a program for free menstruation supplies.
Now - imagine what will happen when Cal student council president Falope Tubes Na-Nidit goes to Wikipedia and sees what BYU believes in. The students at schools that ask them to say their preferred pronouns on the first day of class will be revolting. Also, they will be pissed at the BYU thing.
