Fisch Presser

Probably had nothing to do with anything, but after watching the documentary on the Michigan decoder, I’m paying attention to things like this more. That is, Fisch does a shitty job of covering his mouth when talking to the QB. A decent lip reader would have a field day.

If we see Marlee on Northwestern's sideline, you heard it here first.

The play wasn't blocked correctly. Running to the short side the unblocked player wasn't in the outermost position. Those are designed for the QB to just cut upfield. Because they left an interior player unblocked instead, now he has to keep running laterally with Coleman and they're fucked because they're out of room.
I didn't watch the Flyover Cup but I'm going to guess that Gabriel didn't pitched it and cut upfield exactly how that is designed when going short side.
I was going to say, I saw it again and it looks like the only chance the play has is if Rogers quickly cuts it up and it's not a guarantee then, especially because it's him. If it was a running QB yes. Faasolo doesn't hold his block long enough either.
The short field is so obvious too because Coleman has no chance following the play. The only wild option would be to plant and cut back, which I'm kind of surprised he doesn't try.
If it had been blocked correctly the sliver of space that Rogers might barely have slipped through is an avenue. Fish didn’t have to elaborate or rehash it though, that’s fucking stupid. He’s not wrong and that the play should have worked. He’s also right that if they’d made a tackle on the 31 yard run at the end of the half they are setting up for a short FG to win it. Pair those with the mind numbing penalties and they blew it on multiple levels Saturday, not just the last play. Beat NW by 3 scores and I’ll feel better. Lots to coach up and an attention getting loss should drive the players for quick improvement. If NW keeps it close this will be a long season and fish will have burned all the gravitas I’ve given him for his Arizona tenure.

Yeah, way too much energy is being focused on the last play when the Huskies fucked it up multiple times prior to that. The final call was just the cherry on top.

I think what people are pissed about is it looks like a dumb play on its face because it's designed to "fool" the defense and get the option guy to think it's going to Coleman and back off enough to allow the quarterback to just cut up where you have 1:1 blocking everywhere.
So it's not that it was a good play call, it just looked that much worse because there was a completely unblocked guy where the QB is supposed to just get upfield.
Personally, I thought that the 2nd down play where Boston is supposed to be "an NFL guy" and couldn't complete it was the game. McMillan makes that catch and has against Texas in the Alamo. As someone else said, Giles probably makes it and he's the deserving best receiver on the team right now.

That play looked like dawgshit from the snap. At no time did it feel like it had a chance of working. Credit the defense for playing it right. And a big "fuck you" to the blockers who screwed the pooch and to the playcaller who got too fucking cute.

In the moment I thought WSU blew the play up and it was dead instantly. And that was kind of supposed to be the "better" side of the OL.

Could be reading too much but Rogers also moves like me when I'm in a meeting and someone is telling me excruciatingly stupid shit I'm gonna have to do or ideas.

I knew we’d hate debore’s replacement. I just didn’t think it’d be so soon.

It was a shit play call for a multitude of reasons that have already been described.
Vihmahi did a terrible job but Titialii is who really fucked the dog on that play. Titialii got pushed back at the snap which allowed the defensive lineman to force him further down the line than he should have and then into Vihmahi…who was busy trying to fuck this up all on his own anyway.
Latu, who has 7 inches and 15 pounds on the LB he was supposed to block, allowed an edge to be set and the short side of the field.

TLDR; Stupid fucking play call with terrible execution.

I'm shocked the center who wasn't even a stud at Portland State last year isn't a very good center. How were they not able to go to a low level P5 program or any G5 program and recruit a center in the fucking portal?

@HeetCrusher is a huge faggot that deserves to watch his team play SDSU forever.

Seriously. They benched him for a few plays in the 4th, but he’s gonna cost us another game at some point this year with that bullshit. Just play hatchett or move a guard over or something, holy fuck. And agree it’s a red flag he’s even on the roster, what the fuck?

AOG was in the crucible of the end zone seats and it was over the second the qb tucked up the ball. NO CHANGE IN EXECUTION WOULD CHANGE IT.

The problem is math and short field: 5 tacklers, 4 blockers. basically 3 effective blockers

I’m not a football master or anything but I think this is the design for an option. Make that LB choose either the QB or RB. It’s then up to the QB to effectively….”option”

the problem was that it was on the short side of the field, neither Titialii or Vihmahi did a great job with their blocks, Latu got buttfucked by the LB and Rogers doesn’t run the option.
