Counting Paradise City as 1989 Single - which it was BTW - is fucking retarded. It was released on a LP in 1987.
 
One is the best song on that list, but it's metal, not rock. I'm a sucker for Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Highly underrated.
 

I know, the single EPIC was released in January 1990, but the album The Real Thing was released in June of 1989. So I’m calling 89 for EPIC.

Agreeing with @YellowSnow 's comment regarding Paradise City I'd go with Tesla. But the options are pretty narrow and just metal or "hard" rock. Overall I'd go with TP and Free Fallin'
