I just got done reading “Son of the Morning Star”, a book about Custer and Little Bighorn and it made me reminisce about visiting the battlefield when I was little.

Not to steal @TopicalChica’s thunder here, but what are some of your favorite places of historical interest you’ve visited?
 
That’s near the top for me. There’s a few other battlefields in Montana and Wyoming that we visited but I can’t rememer names now so there’s that.

Had a few historical walks around Philadelphia that were awesome. Ellis Island was more impactful than I had expected. The Alamo.

Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial is unforgettable.

Close to home, Fort Warden and Fort Casey.
 
We stopped by the Little Big Horn on a road trip to the Colorado game in 2000. Did some Lewis and Clark stuff. Saw wagon ruts in the Oregon trail in Nebraska and Wyoming. Did Mt Rushmore and the Tetons and Yellowstone too.

Wore a MAGA hat to DC and lived
 
I have had my photo taken behind the grassy knoll at Dealey Plaza in Dallas and done the book depository tour

I have been to the Alamo as well. It is about the size of a Taco Bell. I asked if I could see the basement as well

Alamo is definitely on my list...and yes, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure had a big part in that.
 
@Doog_de_Jour is Son of the Morning Star a good book? I’m pretty sure my dad had a copy of that and I tried reading when I was a kid but it was beyond me then.

It is good, but it’s oddly structured, which I didn’t mind but some may find off putting. It hops around from the narrative of the Battle of Little Bighorn to a history of the relations between white settlers and the native tribes, then back to Custer’s army career, then back to the battle.

There was a TV movie made back in the early nineties based on the book, which isn’t too bad. It starred Gary “Bill Lumbergh” Cole as Custer, and he actually did a fine job.

Did the Texas trip too. Enjoyed it. Couldn't believe you could make the shot but sharp shooters have reenacted it
 
One of the Throbber's two dads was a Korean War vet. RIP, TYFYS.

Cried like a baby when visiting the KW Monument in DC after his passing. Like a fucking baby.

 
The Throbber did visit the 9-11 site about two years hence....that was a terk jerker, for sure. Too soon. Too fucking soon.

I looked out the window of the 6th floor depository and concluded Oswald acted alone.
 
Graceland, Memphis, TN is cheesy Americana but totally awesome. Elvis’s gun collection alone is worth it.
