Fa'atui Tuitele, 5* 2019 DL, Honolulu (St. Louis), HI (COMMITTED)

Hawaiian five-star defensive tackle Faatui Tuitele pulled a bit of a shocking move by not including USC in his top five, given that he had been on campus more times than any other school on the mainland and has been hearing from the Trojans since the start of his recruitment.

Tuitele plans to commit by the end of the summer so he can focus on his senior season and figures to take all five official visits before then.

USC has been "eliminated" from contention in the past and continued to push, and I get the sense that this probably won't be the last we hear of the Trojans in this particular battle.

"Defensive line coach Kenechi Udeze from SC already called," Tuitele's father tells me. "Tui just got off the phone with him. Coach they aren't done with him yet.

"It was a difficult choice and a hard one for our son. He grew up watching USC with me and became an instant fan. It's been a hard month for him on narrowing it down."

I know we all like to joke about having a hat on the table. But the fact that UW is consistently being named in the top 5 or 6 or 10 or 14 or whatever the fuck kids do these days matters. The more top end kids that give UW a look results in more top end kids legitimately considering UW.

Others will take notice of this, especially the Poly's. Maybe it's the reason Buelow or Vimahi take a closer look when added to Pa'ama having already committed.

Being the only West Coast school matters. Not having USC in his list matters. Being in it with Bama, tOSU, Clemson, and Texas for a top 25 kid fucking matters.

I'm hearing our head coach doesn't understand recruiting and only wants low rated white guys.. Also hearing our D line coach should have been fired after losing Marlon but he wasn't because our HC is a pussy who doesn't care about winning.

I'm also hearing Strausser is a GOOD coach!1!1 And that shitty, two star OL recruits will be fine so long as they piss tan & shit lavender because Strausser can corch em' up!!1!

Also... I appreciate the profiles-in-courage stand you're taking regarding Malloe now that he's started to kill it on the recruiting trail. But let's not pretend the criticism was unwarranted. He didn't just get cucked on Marlon, he failed to sign a single lineman that year. Then the following year he whiffed on Togaiaiaiai despite having almost every built-in advantage... it wasn't looking very good.

To the dude's credit he turned it around in a major fucking way... and if he signs another top DL this year to go along with Paama, you could probably add him to the Lake/Hamden/Lubick category of guys you just expect to dominate every year in recruiting. Which is pretty cool.

There are a couple really good things for us here: Malloe is the only Hawaiian recruiting him (in the actual sense, not in the Roof sense) and is one of only two Poly coaches recruiting him (Tosh is the other).

Everyone else is really far away and no one has much of a Poly community. Scott Pagano went from HI to Clemson and transferred.

Structurally this is great and his comments about Malloe are really telling. This kid is the #1 DT in the west and an absolutely devastating player.

Would be closer to the Gaines role than the Vea role. I would kill for him and Ika (who is more a Vita) and a lot of people would, too... but with the way we closed last year, anything is possible.
