Extend Fisch

That's right. While it would have been fun to pretend, reality would have struck after Ou and definitely in a PO game. That said, this team hase been mildly entertaining to watch, is young and provides a little hope if he stays, the program remains somewhat stable and gets the help it needs via the portal. It shouldn't be this hard given what Washington can be. The outside forces make it an unnecessary train wreck.

Here's what Judd needs to know. Beat Oregon Saturday and he's offered an extension. End of story.

He's got nowhere else to go
No raise until he makes the playoffs

Pay up. Fuck you money. Not fuck everyone money.

He's winning and recruiting definitely is trending up. He's not elite but in today's game -portal, player retention, etc, he's better, more effective than he would have been pre-NIL. Lower his buyout if an NFL team hires him. I'm too old to start over, reload, etc. DeBoer is better but he also walked into a prime situation, a loaded roster, add a QB, voila, Natty contender. DeBoer didn't recruit like Fisch. Maybe UW finally got religion and boosters realized you need to pay for play.
Maybe Fisch is Ron Zook. Could be. Even if he is, this is big boy football. Conference $ at stake. Urban Meyer's fastball has been sheleved too long. I've seen enough to take the next step.

Disagree. IDC. Before I go, I just want to spend New Years somewhere warm with a team capable of crossing the finish line. If Fisch loses to Oregon on Saturday, all bets are off.
This would be like me refinancing my house at double our current rate to get a little cash to buy a boat or something stupid. Why should UW double-down on this guy right now and make it more expensive to cut ties in a year?
Freezing cold take of the year nominee if the podcast gives out annual awards.

I don't think the prevailing thought is to "double down". Maybe were talking about taking our $15 Blackjack bet to $20? But losing him means that $250 you stashed in your pocket is now gone and you just took the stroll of shame back to the ATM for another $1,000.

I don't understand rhe desire to extend a coach who has yet to win a big game or even beat a good team. He has a contract and hasnt ahown any sign that he's going to outperform it.
He's showing some signs that he may actually earn what he's being paid. When he improves on that I'll think about an extension and raise.

UW was just playing for the national championship 2 years ago. I don't want a coach whose high end is 9 wins a year and mind-numbing losses on the road. If he walks, UW gets a buyout and can put that money towards a better coach.

I get it but I still have PTSD from the Losingham years. We? got fucking lucky after Peterman and landed Deboer. The setback with Fisch was acceptable? The next search could be far worse. Other than being from tOSU and was at the coug, I don't know shit about Chun. Can he be trusted to turn it around quickly?

I don’t care if he gets an extension or not. Most of the money talk is just talk. Money gets found when needed.

I don’t think he’s going to leave. I don’t want him to either. If UW feels the need to give him more money, great. I don’t think they do and can push all of this off for another year.

For the record, I think Fisch leaving would at least be bad for UW short term and it's a tricky place for all parties, including fans. It would take a pretty amazing coaching job and portal investment/evaluation to do better than what Judd and the likely core he should do the next 1-2 seasons.

Fisch still hasn't won a game he wasn't supposed to. And he's lost several he shouldn't have.
Sounds like a mediocre coach that doesn't deserve shit.

Let's talk about this on Saturday evening or Sunday.
My feelings may evolve.

The broader issue is that, win or lose, I'm not convinced Jedd wants to be here.

He is recruiting like someone who wants to be here.
DeBoer, not so much. HS coaches were commenting on how they never heard from his staff.

Too busy winning games
We weren't talking recruiting in November because that's what losers do
Winners win. And DeBoer is recruiting fine at Bama

That is interesting insight. I just always go back to Washington is a pretty special place with far more than a modicum of history. It shouldn't be a hard job to find ample success.

He is recruiting like someone who realizes he has to do better to get a different job.

That is good for us either way, for now, but he’ll take probably everybody with him if he leaves.

I don’t get stoked about the recruiting stuff like I used to, as it all can change on a dime now.

It was just commentary on how DeBoer didnt want to be here.
Which he didnt.
Fisch is at least crootin like he does.

I don't know how many recruits sold on Washington would want to go 3,000 miles away to Gainesville.
A few, sure. But that is pretty fucking different.
