I was in the UK this summer (unlike the poster who pretended to go to the Olympics, my trip actually happened). The Muslim community there is very fundamentalist, and there are A LOT of them. Other Muslims who fled their home countries to get away from that are becoming outspoken in saying that there are neighborhoods in London now that, culturally, are a lot like what they were trying to escape.
What do you do when the population of people immigrating to your country want to turn said country's most fundamental principles on their heads?
No. Islam is different. When the world becomes overrun with nutty fundamentalist Jews and Christians, then we can talk about that. But for right now, as we enter the 7th inning stretch, Islam is winning.

Tell me where on the globe there is some entire country, with borders and shit, that is based on some zealous fundamentalist sect of Christianity or Judiasm. Where its most radical tenets are baked into the law and where extremism dominates the culture? Here, the Branch Davidians are freaks. In the Middle East, their normal. Tell me I'm wrong.
Why can't you admit that there are countries founded on Islam, run their societies based on Islamic tenets, that want to keep everything as it was 700 fucking years ago? And why can't you admit that those countries are exporting their crazy to western countries who had figured out long ago a much better (western) way to live?
I just can't for the life of me understand the marriage between US left-wing liberals and followers and fans of Islam, what with all the crazy fucking biases and beliefs in the latter that clash most explicitly with those that have, heretofore, been the bedrock of western liberalism. Things like, for example, individual rights (women, gay people, etc.), freedom of expression, etc. I can remember when it was the dirty hippies at Berkeley who were yelling "free speech"; now your team is walking arm in arm with a group of people who think it's ok to resort to violence in response to being offended. I'm not a fan of any of the world's various, and all equally preposterous religions. I do know that most people aren't religious zealots however, and that the vast majority of Muslims arriving on our shores are leaving the places they come from for a reason and don't want those places replicated here.
