Dylan Morris, 4* 2019 QB, Graham (Graham-Kapowsin), WA (COMMITTED)

The 2019 QB battle is gonna be LIT.

They’re all so different too. Morris improved a lot and could be fantastic in our offense.

Hell, I liked his tape last year, too. His arm isn't really quite where you want it to be in terms of generating velocity (maybe if he can set his feet consistently and generate some hip torque) but even then, he was throwing deep out-breaking routes with accuracy and timing, and a lot of college QBs can't do that.

He's also got a nice, quick delivery, albeit around three-quarters height (which could lead to some batted passes at his height). He has some Baker Mayfield-like traits, I think. I agree he could be great in this offense. If his last name had been some kind of masturbation-related pun, he might have been my favorite commit.

But I thought he was Jake Heaps and was already maxed out as a sophomore??

Jake Heaps in the Pete system would have been really good.

Woah there. Let's not get too carried away. Actually, now that you mention it, did Jake Browning win Pac-12 Offensive POTY last year? Huh. I guess anything's possible. Carry on, then.

Definite quick release which in this offense is money. Kellen Moore was undersized but he got the ball out quick to the right people.

Now, if he is smart enough to read defenses, look out.

Wish I could say the same about Browning.

Things I liked -

Arm strength. Has zip on throws, including downfield. Also showed good downfield accuracy, as the ball was on time.

Hits his back foot and unloads. This could be a function of making good pre-snap reads or command of his offense, but either way, it's nice to see a guy take his drop and have the ball come out on his third step.

Good under center and in the gun.

Play fakes are ok, not great, But better than being utter trash, especially as a high schooler who has time to pickup the nuances of better play action.

Things I disliked -

Absolutely zero progression through reads in these highlights. Only got to his second receiver a couple of times.

Didn't use eyes to look off defenders. Not a huge thing when his primary target was open so often, but at the next level, staring those guys down is going to get him picked often.

Need to watch some full game tape, as highlights don't tell the whole picture, but this kid looks good and I'm glad he's coming.

The best thing about a kid like Morris is you'll have him for 5 years.
The same would have been true with Jake had we had any other options

This is a good point. Dylan Morris as a 23 year old QB with 5 years in our system will be a BAWS. So, yes, 2023 will be SPECIAL!!!

For some reason, I always assume this is Kamari Pleasant's account.

Also, looking guys off and shit is not really that important IMO. Yes, obviously you want the kid to do it eventually, but that's shit you can coach. I'm watching film for all the first things you said - how is he physically?

The great thing about him is he's got a quick release and he's really accurate. Not an amazing arm, but it's fine. Him Sirm and Yanky are all really different players. He seems closest to the Pete "The Only QB Who Has Ever Been Good Is Kellen Moore" prototype, so he'll probably start for us in 2019.

Fuck. This is kind of what I'm feeling. I like the guy, but I also have this nagging feeling he's another short spread guy who is great throwing to his first read against shit teams and can take us to the first round of the playoffs against Bama and then throw five batted passes at the line, one of which turns into a pick six. Four years in a row.

Is optimism something that can be learned?

He's good. His arm is strong and he throws almost every ball hard which I like. Nothing bugs me more from a qb than lofting passes that could have been thrown hard. I love that he can throw hard for 35-40 yards with a simple plant and no crow hop required.

He did throw a few touch passes so I know he can do it.

Pretty much stares down his primary read as others have mentioned. I was just glad to see he can rip it though.

@Dennis_DeYoung @CokeGreaterThanPepsi how would you compare Cale's JR film to Dylan's? I personally like Cale's film more, but his arm strength pretty average

Cale is good, but I love Dylan Morris. Check that sidearm throw @37 seconds in for an example of his arm strength. He can put a lot of zip on the ball without using proper mechanics. Good ability to put the ball up and away from DBs where his guys can still make a play on it. Decent scrambling ability, too. Can throw it on the run without setting his feet going to either side. Looks like he can make plays on and off schedule. I think I've said it before but he reminds me of Mayfield a little bit. I think he's legit.

my only concern with dylan is that his OL is pretty good. so I am not sure how good he is under pressure. he is definetly has a superior arm to Cale.

Well, it's kind of hard to evaluate who is a 'gamer' and can make plays in big moments, that's one of the main reasons it's important to have competition at QB.

We've all seen that Browning folds under pressure, and we also know we don't have anyone better behind him. Now it looks like we'll be bringing in several guys with real talent.

One of them is bound to work out for us, right?
