As class room discipline declined along with the strangle hold of the teacher unions and the inability to fire incompetents or the lazy, the "profession" entered into a doom cycle. So, you have a job that you have to "work" at only 9 months a year, once you have your lesson plan book completed you can go on auto pilot. You get full benefits and great retirement and you just have to ignore the chaos of the day but you don't care because you don't give a sh*t. That job description is not going to attract the best and the brightest except for maybe a few private schools or wealthy suburban school districts.
