I really don’t understand why there’s tampering rules anymore. This current system is so FUBAR that this should be the least of the NCAA’s concerns. If there’s anything that should be investigated for tampering it’s these damn sports agents.
The sooner this sham is blown up completely and rebuilt the better.
I’m surprised none of the NIL collectives are having their players who are under contract endorse the collective in advertisements targeted to HS and college players.
Unionize the athletes and create pay scales, salary caps, transfer specifications and general rules to follow in recruitment that are negotiated by the players, their representatives and the NCAA or the B1G/SEC. Then rules can actually be enforced when programs bend the rules and all these lawsuits can stop. Professional players have their contracts and any endorsement deals they do on the side. Should be the same for college athletes and it should all be public record. I have never been a big union guy for college athletics but the product is suffering and the current state of CFB/CBB is untenable and the sentiments of are creeping into more and more of the fanbase.
Fuck unions in general, but the salary cap and rookie scale in the NFL pretty much saved the sport and gave places like Buffalo, Jacksonville and Detroit a fighting chance.
Could be part of an answer for college, too. Seems like there would have to be a major push by all the players who currently aren’t getting much, if anything, so not sure how that gets momentum at this point.
Should have followed the Stanford players calling for a union years ago.
