It may have been something as little as Sexton calling him and saying “Hey, Saban is retiring, will be announced soon. You’re on Alabama’s short list. Will move very quickly, be ready on a moment’s notice and start having conversations now with your family to confirm your interest. The terms will be probably be somewhere around XYZ, talk soon.”
Who knows exactly when this may have happened, but there’s no way it didn’t happen sometime before the title game. Maybe even as early as November or December.

Not a single player said anything about Fats and Bama impacting the game. If this leaked and it had an effect on the game, we’d hear about it
Polk had the worst body language I’d ever seen. Maybe the only time he had bad body language and that includes the rain game where he couldn’t catch a cold. Call me a conspirest but I think they knew.

It's a big thing to say without any proof in-hand. One thing though is the vast majority of the team were either graduating or leaving early for the NFL. It's possible Polk was just frustrated he saw the natty slipping away and didn't think he was getting the ball enough and the OL and Penix were fucking up around him.
