The only reason this would be possible is because it would be exactly the way he coached most this season. Just ugly and miserable but then in the end somehow winning.

Every other candidate, real or imagined, leveraged the Bama interest into big investments at their current employer.

Those schools stepped up, but that tells me none of those coaches wanted to be the guy after Saban. Does DeBoer want to be the guy to follow Saban? Or is he just milking this for everything he can out of the new AD (who I would guess probably resents that DeBoer controls the entire situation).

If DeBoer doesn't take the job Alabama is going to be in full panic mode. It would be pretty bizarre for every single suitor to turn them down.
 
DeBoer has more stones than any of those guys. We’ve known this. He’s not scared of following anyone.
