Who doesn't have a fucking ID? Everyone who grows up in the United States has an ID. Everyone, regardless of race or social class. WTF?? Take a day off work, show your ID, take your "I voted" card back to your employer, they pay you for the day and the government reimburses your employer for the day you took off. Get up early, stand in line, vote and get paid. Why is this so hard?
Some people don’t have an ID. That is simply true.
Given that voter ID is a solution in search of a problem, the cynicism of the GOP is really quite obvious.
If you're living and working here without going through legal channels then you are correct, not everyone has an ID. The guys from Ecuador I built horse fences with 20 years ago didn't have ID. I did. We all made the same money except they were paid under the table I was forced to get a paycheck. The boss had to have some legitimate employees and I really needed a job. No complaints from me. That's life. I voted, they didn't. They weren't legitimate citizens. They could have been if they wanted to but then they'd have to pay yucky taxes and stuff.
Millions of US citizens do not have an acceptable voter ID. Doesn’t mean none of them ever had an ID at one time. But why does my Korean War veteran father need a current ID? He doesn’t drive, travel, write checks or get carded at the tavern.
I don’t think he should vote anymore, but I bet some of you approve of his politics.
My 80yo mom gets her ID on line. It’s not hard. Maybe help your dad get his. He’s in the system. You could do it with him on your phone, but you don’t want him voting anyway so…
But you are making my point. Yes, some people have that family support. Some don’t. Anyway, he’s in Washington, so he gets to vote like a John Bircher without hassle.
These GOP suppression schemes are very much a product of known demographics regarding who is less likely to have valid ID. There are plenty of studies and surveys on the topic. If those demographics voted Republican, there would be no voter ID laws.
