The press conference quote about seeking a "maniacal" recruiter was a direct shot at DeBoer sleepwalking on that part of his job.
I asked a media guy in New Orleans about Dannen and said he thought he had done a good job in New Orleans.
Then he added the money shot:
"Some of the coaches at Tulane didn't like him because they thought he didn't give a shit about anything but football"

Yeah the whole "UW isn't taking payment" argument makes zero sense. What exactly does not taking payment achieve? How would that prevent Bama from announcing coaches?

I mean, he was able to build a winner at Tulane, with a decent NIL program for a G5 school, and was able to retain Fritz when people were interested.
His time at Northerm Iowa was also a success.
