I still think Romar should have been fired. But my goodness, he found the coffee cups!

Still can't coach though, but that talent coming in the next 3 years is insane.
 
I think if you brought me piles of top 50 players, I could make a S16. So maybe Romar has a chance. Still unlikely.
 
This will be an interesting one to watch ...

I've seen a good amount of Davis the last two years ... as a freshman he clearly had some potential. Didn't like what I saw out of him last year in terms of playing team ball. Looked to me like someone had gotten into his ear telling him how good he was. Problem was that he wasn't anywhere close to the best player on his own team.

It will be interesting to see how he develops.

In watching Lakeside games, Isiah Brown to me is the far better prospect and in many ways I'm happy to see that he's going to Northwestern. That's a great fit for him and with the way that he has developed as he has turned from a gunner to a team-oriented player that is able to get his when needed but has learned how to make players better. Picking a program that is run by a member of the Coach K coaching fraternity in Chris Collins (not to mention the experience in his bloodlines with his father Doug), should be a great fit. I'd be surprised if Brown isn't a key contributing member of the first Northwestern team to make the NCAAs and the NW education will be solid.

What I didn't like about Davis last year was he literally never passed the ball. It was like watching hoops at 24 Hour Fitness. With the high-end D1 talent that they had on the team, IF you have guys that are in a position that could help make their less talented players better, you can bring up the collective of the team. I thought Brown TRIED to do that. Davis was more interested in developing himself and I saw a lot of pouting type behavior on the court from him when things didn't go his way whereas Brown would just buck up and play harder.

There's no question about Davis and his potential as a player. He's got 2 years left to develop before he is in the rotation at UW. But I could see him being far closer to a Wroten type of player if he continues down the same path.

So you're telling us an upperclassman is more mature than an underclassman.

Brown is 5' 11"...and he isn't Nate or IT. Northwestern can have him.

Davis has more potential than Brown, but he isn't good enough to be Wroten-esque. And with the way recruiting is progressing, he will need to earn his minutes.

Romar still needs to lock up Jaylen Nowell. Time for Will Conroy to earn his paycheck.

Brown looks to be a legit 6'1" the last I saw him play ... he didn't look small and actively played on the interior.

My comments on Davis being Wroten-esque were not meant as a complement. They were meant more from the standpoint of being more interested about the individual than the team. In his commitment story, he made remarks about a number of guys coming in ahead of him are one and done.

One of my major criticisms about the kids that Romar has pulled in in the recent past that have been worth a damn has been that they were more interested in their own development than the development of the team. They are not mutually exclusive.

My biggest fear with what Romar is doing is bringing in a bunch of highly skilled guys that will leave as soon as possible. Very rarely are guys ready to go to the NBA before they have been in school somewhere between 2-4 years.

And before someone points out that that's not true for the top programs, I give you Tom Izzo and Michigan State. Players at Michigan State tend to stay for 2, 3, or all 4 years and develop in the program. They hit the NBA level ready to play and earn their minutes and as a result their pay. Draymond Green is a great example of this.
 
Not as much as Beach, but enough.

Romar's recruiting has been good lately, but there are only 1-2 guys that are legit one and done caliber players. The rest will stay (or transfer if they don't get PT) all 4. This isn't a problem worth consideration.
 
All reports that I've heard is that Marquise Chris is better than advertised and could be one and done. I think Murray is a good player but I don't see his draft prospects being very good until he matures more physically.
 
I don't think any of them in this class are one and done caliber. That doesn't mean they won't try, but there's no one in this class with that Hawes/Wroten transcendent caliber talent. Even Roy and Ross weren't one and done caliber guys. I think they all play two years at least. If someone ends up better than advertised, great.

I have it on pretty good authority that Baby Boy is staying more than 1 year.

Only exception would be if he was a projected sure thing lottery pick (not happening unless he has a monster season).

No idea about Chriss, but he's the only other player with a chance of leaving for the NBA. I seriously doubt he does. The 5 star kid from Maryland is a more likely 1 and done than the guys we already have. Assuming he actually signs with UW...

Consider me skeptical about Chriss. He's listed as a 6'8" 205 power forward. I'm sure he's put on some weight, but even at 225 there's no way he's going to be one and done as a 4. I'm not sure he has the ballhandling skills to be a one and done on the wing.

I'm really excited about him but i think Murray's much more likely one and than Chriss is, and I don't think Murray's one and done. I could see one or both of them being two and done though.
 
Davis being local, I can see maybe sticking it out. This kid from MD I'm fairly confident about because he signs his LOI before the season starts. But Davis next year, the porter kid in 2 years and anyone else Romar subsequently gets to commit...I'm afraid are going to see Andrew Andrews and 8 freshman playing rat ball and winning 5 PAC12 games. There's going to have to be another sales job or plenty more coffee cups to get the kids not to decommit after this year's dreck Romar rolls on the court.

Not every coach is going to be calapari, but somehow the guy pulls all 5* frosh and gets them to play together by seasons end. Romar has struggled integrating high end talent to actual production and team play.

Again, if he is going to scrap the bullshit offense he's run for the last 3-4 years, and go back to his defense that earned him the reputation he's living by over the last 4 years than everyone will be better.

It's romars job to get the kids from immature, babied, non defensive AAU binky sucking dipshits, and make them into actual basketball players.
