Saw a few of these. One pilot said its like looking through two toilet paper rolls
probably a good reason to not be so close to an airport but who knows

Occam’s Razor strongly leans towards this possibility.

It wasn't intentional. I thought I saw on the TV that after the ATC said do you have eyes on the plane the answer was yes. But wrong plane. ATC never said do you have eyes the plane at your 9.
