Cooper McDonald, 2020 3* LB, Justin (Northwest), TX (Committed)

Also, not impressed. It's July and we are taking some try hard from Texas? I'm fine with this offer in November when all the top guys have told the dynamic duo of Kwat and Shitbird to fuck off, but Plan B guys in July is a bad look. At least it's not Plan C? FML

I’m willing to LIPO and withhold judgment until after the senior season hudl comes out.

Herbig and Botelho were major fuck ups. We? got beat out for guys that should have been easy gets. Let’s just get that out of the way first and foremost.

As for this kid, his ranking doesn’t bother me. I think it’s actually pretty low and Wiltfong mentioned it should be higher. Likely .85 or .86. That would be right in line with Ah You and Tuputala, who we all love. The ranking doesn’t mean shit. The tape does.

His Junior tape isn’t amazing. But he has good size that matches what has been recruited at ILB the last two classes with guys like Sirmon/Calvert/Tuputala/Heimuli, hits like a truck and dudes go down quick, he has decent quickness and speed, and has a nose for turnovers and takes them to the house when he gets them.

This is not Clemson and Bama Level. Obviously. I wanted Herbig and Botelho. I want Smalls and Banks. But this kid was identified early. He committed the July before his Senior year, not January after it.

We didn’t hate Tafisi, Tuputala, or Ah You because their ranking sucked.

I’m waiting until his senior film comes out. If he hasn’t improved or doesn’t wow me, I’ll shit on him then.

He has already announced he will be moving to ILB for his Senior season, so the tape this fall will tell us how outraged we all must be.

Also, IIRC the average ILB this last draft class was 6'1". So while he may not be 6'3" with the length an edge guy needs, he doesn't need to be. He fits the same body mold of the ILB the coaches have gotten the last 2 classes.

Figured I'd support my claim that his stature fits the mold of ILB just fine.

The projected position for 2020 three-star prospect and Washington Huskies commit Cooper McDonald has been changed from outside linebacker to inside linebacker on 247Sports.

I got a chance to see McDonald in person this past Friday, when he manned an inside spot for Justin (Texas) Northwest in its 40-0 home rout of Fort Worth (Texas) Southwest. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound McDonald, who's playing through a hand injury that requires a club on his right hand/wrist, proved to be a consistent tackle-to-tackle gap-minder with a physical approach to the linebacker position.

The in-person evaluation -- along with insight from Northwest head coach Bill Poe -- suggests that he is a better fit for an inside linebacker role at the next level, rather than the previous outside projection. Playing inside will allow him to concentrate more on defending the run and pursuing laterally and downhill, rather than playing in space more and matching up in coverage more often with backs and tight ends. He will obviously be asked to do those things at times playing inside, but it shouldn't be with the frequency he would see outside.

Additionally, McDonald is believed to be an inside linebacker take for the Washington coaching staff, so this position projection change aligns with where we expect McDonald to play once he's with the Huskies.

McDonald's better fit inside also results in a move up grade-wise, per 247Sports, which elevates him to an 86 three-star rating at an inside linebacker spot. That moves him into the top 40 inside linebackers nationally at No. 36 at his new projected position for the 2020 class in the 247Sports rankings, where he also moved up almost 15 spots in the state of Texas rankings to No. 120 overall. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite now puts McDonald at No. 40 nationally among 2020 inside linebackers and No. 115 overall in the Lone Star State.

This included a jump from #991 to #805 overall on 247.

@DoogCourics Even though you are literally a piece of shit, I can’t tell you how much more I like you for not being a douche bag chest beater. Since you didn’t, I will.

On at least two occasions you mentioned this move and why it makes sense. The last post in this thread until today was July 28th and you mentioned ideal size for drafted players by position.

I give you the BTallz award for being right and not being a douche nozzle aidz spreader.

I also hope my kind words and stupid made up award (named by combining our two most recent aidz bans) repays my debt so I no longer have to daily clean your “spooky ghost” room.

Ruthann! Get the hose! Looks like @dirtydrugsdawg got into the meth again!

This guy will be our next "proof that Pete doesnt get it" followed a year later by being all pac 12

It’s a dangerous game to automatically hate a player because he’s not a 4 star with big schools after him. The ratings are just percentages. People forget that.

Pettis, Gaines, Dissly, Sample, Sidney Jones, Nick Harris, BBK. We’ve gotten plenty of good players that were lowly rated. The coaches have been good evaluators. The Texas TBS guy on 247 said he was a lot better than his ranking too.

Ft Worth HS’s generally suck at football ... I should look at his schedule to figure out what legit programs he plays

ILB is the best fit for him
