Airplane is great, but it has a lot of jokes. The problem with jokes in comedy movies is that they wear down easily. Contexts change, etc.
Lebowski has the advantage of being a humorous look at how people act and in that sense isn't really constrained by context because it creates its own.

Airplane is funny and has lots of good stupid jokes. But it feels so dated when I watch it. Lebowski gets better and better as the years role. Just look at JT’s pederast character alone...I’ll stick it up your ass and pull the trigger till it goes CLICK.
