In fairness to 40 Year Old Virgin, while I wouldn't have it in my personal top 8 comedies, I still think it's funny as fuck and will hold up very well over tim.
 
I don't know why I do this, but there are some movies that are universally praised that I neglect out of a feeling I already know what it's going to be like or understand the emotion it's trying to convey.

I usually do this with dramas I.g. Precious (a fat chick suffers abuse in the ghetto while trying to survive and find some sort of acceptance and self worth, possible redemption, I'm sure it's well acted, don't need to see it, I get it)

For some reason I do that with old Mel Brooks movies, only one I've seen is Spaceballs and I love it, so I have no excuse, it's just what I do.

I can relate to this. I love some of Mel’s stuff but I don’t get the appeal of Young Frankenstein.

Agreed. But Blazing Saddles is Mel's masterstroke.
 
I'm a dipshit millennial who loves Blazing Saddles, but 40 year old virgin is arguably the most quotable comedy of all time. And nothing beats Rogen's recap of his night at the Tijuana donkey show.
