Coach DeB

New Fish

Very solid HC, a $$$$ value hire.
A respectable 8-9 win a year type. Could pop a 10 if the stars align.
Guy can obviously coach his fellas up for big games, as the Oregon and UCLA games proved.
Lost to Oregon when they woke from their pre tOSU nap.
He will get the most out of the guys that Oregon and SC pass on each cycle.

This was not the time for a value hire. That's the problem I have with it. DeBoner isn't the splash hire to invigorate this recruiting cycle. Also, it's usually the recruiting year after a good season when things pick up. So I could see two consecutive down recruiting years coming from UW, even if he wins 9-10 games next year, which doesn't bode well for the new coach. If he struggles next year, he's not going to last, because the talent will be gone.

You sound nervous.

Nervous about the only guy who would call you back?

Sure.

Oregon has never made a Neu/Petersen hire. Ever.

We'll see what happens when Meat leaves with your? recruiting class this year or next.

*faggy wink*

When a program is on life support, UW, a splash hire has to at least be in the mind of the AD.

Oregon has not been on life support. No splash hire necessary.

Huh. This is a little bit different talk than what is going on at the other place.

Narrative in Doogland was DK was our #1/#2/#3 choice. Riley, Kelly, Mullin, even Campbell, meh.

I am going to love the recruiting narrative of UW running 4 wide yet some hack down at SC who runs the same thing keeps taking all the guys we want......

Oregon’s Big Dick Hire:

Chip Kelly, from assistant to Head Coach.

Dumped the AD (Bill Moos, Coug alum) and bought out his contract after he had the stupidity to throw out trial balloons about the UW AD position. He ended up as AD at WSU.

Oregon hired an AD on a temporary basis to pave the way for Chip’s promotion.

Bellotti was forced into an early retirement after coaching as an offensive coordinator and head coach at Oregon for 20+ years.

The temporary AD oversaw the signing of Chip Kelly and allowed Bellotti to be a figurehead AD for one year after the temp AD was gone.

I’ll put Kelly’s record at Oregon up against Weasel’s and Peterman’s during their time at UW.

Chip Kelly as head coach at Oregon:
Four years, 46-7;
L 1 BCS Championship game: Auburn, 22-19
2 Rose Bowls, 1-1, L to tOSU; W against Wisconsin with Russell Wilson at QB
1 Fiesta Bowl, 1-0, defeated Kansas State

Did you go to the Apple Cup this year? If not, why not? 4 wins? Terrible football? Terrible coaches?

You would have been a great OSEwe fan . . .

In 26 years (1972-1997), the Beavers best season was 4 wins. They did it four times. That was their best. They even had an 0-11 season.

Nervous? No.

Intrigued? Sure.

We’ll see if the new coach can handle the pressure of an entitled fan base.

Peterman couldn’t handle the pressure (criticism).

BTW: How many wins did you predict for Huskies at start of this season?

I’m convinced @haie just comes over here to troll and shitpost but then he gets caught up in the moment, and very quickly starts getting his ass kicked once his nose gets too far in front of his skis.

Again and again and again.

You spend a fuck ton of time on this board, haie

Why are you still so goddamned bad at it?

I think you missed the boat. No one would suggest Kelly wasn’t a fantastic coach for you. But no one knew who he was prior to his hire either. He wasn’t some big name that people across the nation were gushing over.

Literally the sole reason Mikey b retired early was because other big programs were reaching out to interview chip as HC and if Oregon didn’t elevate him to hc he was gone. No warning just gone
