“I've been talking to them for over a year and a half," Phillips III said recently. "They offered me and I have a really strong relationship with coach (Jimmy) Lake. I talk to him quite a bit and I also talk a lot with coach (Chris) Petersen. I'm very interested in Washington right now."
In addition his offer from the Huskies, Phillips III also holds from from schools like Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and Texas among others. He's working out a plan to visit as many of his favorite schools as possible
"Right now, the only visit I have set up is for Oregon on March 16th," Phillips III noted. "I want to get out to see as many schools as possible this spring and summer so I can see all of the stuff I need to see and then I'll take my official visits.
"I definitely want to get up and see Washington. I know they were Pac 12 champs last season and that the school and the program there are great. I'm still doing a lot of research on all of these schools, but that's the little bit that I know so far."
Phillips III is also familiar with 2019 Washington signee Trent McDuffie and says his game is a lot like the talented freshman to be.
"I met him at different camps and 7v7 competitions and also from track, so I know him," Phillips III said. "It's not like we're close friends or anything, but I watched the way he played over at (St. John Bosco) and he is a talented guy. I feel like I play a lot like he does."
While he doesn't have a timeline for when a decision might be made although he does know what he's looking for from the school that he'll sign with in mid-December.
"Mainly it's just the overall fit," Phillips III admitted. "I'm looking for the culture and the coaches and how I fit in at the school and with the team.
"I'm also looking for a school with my major (Kinesiology or Sports Science) and a place that I feel can develop me as both a player and a person. I want to be set up for my life after football as well."

With freaky performances by several players this weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine, who are the prospects from the 2020 class that remind me of this year's combine standouts? Here are a few comparisons…
DK Metcalf – Leonard Manuel would have to get a lot faster to approach Metcalf’s times, but remember that Metcalf wasn’t a burner coming out of high school. He was a big wide receiver who struggled to get separation at times, which is the knock on Manuel right now.
Montez Sweat – This is a tough projection because Sweat was a two-star tight end coming out of high school and a three-star defensive end out of JUCO. So who could be a freak of nature in three years at defensive end like Sweat? Jordan Burch could be. He’s an amazing athlete already.
Rashan Gary – How about a big man who can play defensive tackle or defensive end at the next level and can test off the charts in a few years? Myles Murphy out of Georgia is that guy.
Devin White – White was a running back turned linebacker who had great size and was very aggressive coming out of high school. Justin Flowe is no running back but he’s a big, aggressive linebacker in the Devin White mold.
N’Keal Harry – He might have had a couple of drops but overall he had a very good combine and Julian Fleming reminds me a lot of Harry. He’s tall, athletic and can get downfield.
Byron Murphy – The top-ranked corners are all over six-feet tall and Clark Phillips is slightly undersized but as smooth as can be and has natural instincts.
